But it doesn’t.
It starts with the moment you decide: “Today, I’m setting up my sewing machine.”
Make today the day you finally put your machine on the table.
You have more time than you think you do.
Give yourself 10 minutes…15 minutes…
Set it on your kitchen table and do these simple steps.
You’ll build confidence SO fast that you’ll want to keep going.
Here’s exactly what to do before you even think about buying fabric!!!
1️⃣ Practice on notebook paper.
Don’t even thread your machine yet.
Grab lined notebook paper and practice stitching along the lines.
This teaches your hands what “straight” feels like without the pressure of fabric or thread.
2️⃣ Change your needle.
If you’ve never replaced it, it’s probably dull.
A dull needle causes skipped stitches, tension issues, and unnecessary frustration.
Pop in a new one and save the old one as your “paper needle.”
3️⃣ Learn to thread your machine + test on a spider scrap.
Open your user manual and follow the threading steps slowly.
Then sew on a tiny scrap of fabric “your spider scrap” before touching your real project.
This keeps your fabric from getting eaten and your stitches clean.
The real beginning of quilting isn’t about fabric or fancy tools.
It’s about believing you can figure this out.
It’s about showing up for YOU.
Set up your machine today.
Give yourself those 10–15 minutes.

JEDoes your fabric ever get stuck when you get to the end of a seam and you can’t pull it out?? Here’s how to fix it! 🙂🪡
Note: if you have an advanced sewing machine, your machine may end every seam with the needle in the highest position! My computerized machine does that, so I don’t have to worry about manually lifting the needle up. I’m using a basic machine that doesn’t have that luxury 😂 so manually turning the hand wheel after every seam sewn makes all the difference!

The first time I ever sat down to use my machine it took me over 2 hours to figure out how to thread it. 🤦🏽♀️
This can be one of the trickiest parts when you’re first getting started but once you figure it out, it will feel like the easiest thing.
✂️Not all sewing machines are the same but most domestic sewing machines will thread similarly to this. For reference, I’m using a Singer Heavy Duty.
