Dogs encountering puppies for the first time navigate one of the most behaviorally complex social situations their domestic lives produce—meeting individuals whose chemical signatures, movement patterns, and social communications simultaneously identify them as dogs and as something requiring entirely different interaction protocols than adult dog encounters, their responses revealing sophisticated social category recognition that adjusts behavioral output based on vulnerability assessment rather than simply species identification. Puppy chemical signatures communicate developmental status through hormonal profiles that adult dogs detect immediately and respond to with behavioral adjustments that operate below conscious decision-making. Puppies produce distinct pheromone combinations associated with immaturity that trigger inhibition responses in adult dogs—their scent essentially broadcasting a social status that requests gentler treatment through chemical communication before any behavioral interaction has begun. Adult dogs detecting puppy scent show measurable behavioral modulation even before visual contact confirms what their nose already identified, their response beginning at olfactory recognition rather than behavioral observation. The puppy license—the behavioral immunity that very young dogs receive from adult aggression—operates through these chemical signals in ways that protect puppies during the developmental period when their social communication is insufficiently developed to avoid triggering adult defensive responses through their own behavior. Puppies that approach adults too directly, make inappropriate eye contact, or violate social protocols that adult dogs would find offensive receive tolerance rather than correction because their chemical signals override behavioral transgressions that equivalent behavior from adult dogs would not escape without social consequence. Adult dog behavioral modulation around puppies reveals social flexibility that their interactions with adult dogs doesn't always demonstrate. Dogs that play roughly with adult companions, maintain resource possession assertively, and show limited patience...

🔑When adopting a rescue it’s important to make sure you pick the right pet for your family. Many rescues adopt out behaviorally abnormal animals without giving them the necessary treatment (behavior medicine can work wonders for abnormally skittish puppies and if a puppy is avoiding contact with people for weeks it warrants a visit with a vet behaviorist for sure). 🚩Remember, what you see is often what you get. I would never adopt a pet with the expectation that they will ever be anything different than what they are today. Behavior issues may get better, they may get worse. Often, they do get worse in a young animal, especially without intervention. 🛎 Sending a puppy that is behaviorally abnormal home without a professional evaluation sets that puppy up to fail. #rescuedog #shelterdog #dogbehavior #dogbehaviorist #puppytips

Answer Key (for you): Correct answer: B) Trust in the group Why: People assumed the group knew the reason, so they followed without questioning. Option A fits emotionally, and Option C fits behaviorally, which is why they feel tempting, but the core psychology is trust in collective behavior. Open communication is so important when it comes to your child talking to you about their day at school. Not only is it important academically & behaviorally so that you can carry over any teaching that’s going on in the classroom, but it actually improves a child’s memory and retention to recount their day. I find that asking specific questions and remaining positive/excited helps my daughter open up to me each day instead of leading with a question like “what did you do today?” and getting “nothing” back. My goal is to establish a habit and routine of sharing her day with me so that it keeps going the whole time she’s in school! A father’s presence and guidance help young girls develop higher self-esteem, experience less depression and anxiety, and even influence the way they approach romantic relationships. It’s no surprise that a father’s involvement directly affects a child cognitively, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally. Shout out to a late great, who set a standard for strong fathers raising strong daughters. 🎥 @thementorhouse & @robertirwinphotography

Parents, I’m just leaving clinic and I want to share a quick reminder. When you bring your child to the doctor, the questions we ask aren’t random. We’re trying to understand the full picture of your child’s health — physically, emotionally, and behaviorally. One of the most helpful things you can do during that visit is simply this: Put the phone down while we’re talking. Those few minutes of attention can make a huge difference in helping us understand what your child needs. If this resonates with you, share it with a parent bringing their child to the doctor soon. I love you, I’m praying for you, and I’ll see you next time. #parenting #parents #kids

Dads are spending more, intentional time with their children than past generations. And it’s no surprise that a father’s presence and involvement directly affects a child cognitively, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally. Some positive findings: ➡️ 97% of dads today are changing diapers compared to 60% in a 1982 study ➡️ Between 1989 and 2014, there has been a 70% increase in the number of stay-at-home dads ➡️ Since the 90s, the number of dads taking paternity leave has quadrupled ➡️ Today’s dads are spending 3X more time with their kids than they did 50 years ago ➡️ They’re also spending triple the amount of time caring for their children than dads did in 1965 🎥 Neil Murray via Viralhog

Opportunity To Change 🧠 @chriswillx x @steven You can become almost anything you want ‘behaviorally’ because your daily actions shape your identity more than your intentions ever will. Change the way you speak, react, and spend your time, and your character will slowly align with the future you imagine. Roughhousing—think playful wrestling, chasing, tickling, and tumbling—often looks chaotic, but when it’s safe, mutual, and supervised, it actually supports healthy brain development in young children. Here’s what it does neurologically and behaviorally: 1. Builds self-control (prefrontal cortex development) During rough play, kids get excited and stimulated—but they also have to pause, read cues, and stop when needed. That back-and-forth strengthens the part of the brain responsible for impulse control, decision-making, and emotional regulation. 2. Improves social intelligence Children learn to read facial expressions, tone, and body language in real time. This helps wire skills like empathy, cooperation, and understanding boundaries. 3. Strengthens emotional regulation Roughhousing brings kids close to the edge of “too much” (too excited, too intense), and then back down again. That “up and down” experience helps their nervous system learn how to handle big feelings without getting overwhelmed. 4. Supports motor and sensory development All that pushing, rolling, balancing, and dodging helps develop coordination, body awareness, and sensory processing. 5. Reinforces bonding and security When roughhousing happens with a trusted adult (especially a parent), it releases feel-good chemicals like oxytocin. That builds a sense of safety and connection. ⸻ But there’s an important caveat: Roughhousing only benefits the brain when it stays playful, not aggressive. It can become harmful if: * One child feels scared, overpowered, or unable to stop * There are no clear boundaries * It regularly escalates into real anger or aggression In those cases, instead of building regulation, it can reinforce stress responses. rule of thumb: #dadlife #fatherhood #husbandandwife #anxiousmom #childdevelopment
