How it works: The Trap: As the water flows around the curved surface of the ping-pong ball, it creates a pocket of low pressure. The Hug: Because the pressure inside the water stream is lower than the air pressure outside, the ball is literally "pushed" back into the stream every time it tries to fall away. The Balance: The downward pull of gravity is perfectly balanced by the upward force of the water's momentum, keeping the ball locked in this "invisible" liquid cage. Bernoulli’s Principle describes how pressure, velocity, and elevation relate in a flowing fluid under ideal conditions. Those conditions rarely exist in a real plant. As fluid moves through a line, energy is continuously lost. Friction along the pipe wall reduces pressure. Fittings, valves, and bends introduce additional losses. Turbulence redistributes energy in ways the ideal equation does not account for. The velocity profile is no longer uniform, and the pressure field is no longer clean. The equation remains valid in form, but incomplete in application. What is measured in the field is not just the result of energy balance. It is the result of energy balance minus losses. This is where many calculations begin to drift from reality. The model assumes ideal flow. The system operates with dissipation. A transmitter that disagrees with a calculation is not always wrong. In many cases, it is reflecting the losses the equation did not include. Bernoulli does not fail the assumptions behind it mostly do. #Bernoulli #flow #pressure #physics #science

The actual pressure difference is only a few percent of atmospheric - but that's enough for a hollow tennis ball. Double the rotation speed and the force quadruples. As air escapes from the balloon it spreads under the disc and forms a thin cushion of air that slightly lifts the CD above the surface. With reduced contact and friction the disc can glide smoothly across a flat surface.
