A single leather jacket requires 2,000 gallons of water; enough drinking water for one person for five years. The tanning process uses toxic chemicals like chromium, formaldehyde, and arsenic, contaminating rivers and leaving over 90% of tannery workers with severe health issues. And then there’s the climate cost - one leather bag has a higher carbon footprint than a tank of gas.

⚠️ ¡OJO! Los bioplásticos como cada material tienen sus ventajas e inconvenientes y no son “la solución milagrosa” ni son más ecológicos de por sí. Son adecuados para algunas aplicaciones específicas (por ejemplo para bolsas de residuos orgánicos, algunas aplicaciones de agricultura...) pero no para todas de forma generalizada

Como tampoco por el hecho de que algunos sean biodegradables y/o compostables, han de abandonarse a su suerte en la naturaleza pensando que desaparecerán. Como cada material, hay que utilizarlos de manera responsable, en aplicaciones
concretas y donde supongan una mejor opción ambiental (analizado a través de Análisis del Ciclo de Vida), porque no por el hecho de ser bioplásticos significa que automáticamente tengan menos impactos ambientales
