There’s a trend of adding salt to drinking water or lemon water, but this practice is detrimental, this is a terrible biohack. When you add salt directly to your water, you’re essentially mainlining sodium straight to your organs. This can overwhelm your liver and pancreas, and in extreme cases, contribute to liver shutdown or pancreatitis. Salt is not meant to bypass the digestive process, it’s meant to be buffered by foods. Without a meal to mitigate it, salt in water can be harmful. Salt Can Pickle Your Adrenals. A little healthy salt can be okay, sea salt or good mountain rock salt here and there is tolerable for your liver. A pinch of these salts in your life is not going to hurt it. It’s when we overdo salt, particularly the wrong salt, and when we overdo salt within a high-fat diet that we need to be cautious. Unfortunately, the salt that’s liberally sprinkled on restaurant dishes or in packaged foods isn’t the salt your body needs to function. This type of salt may negate efforts to stay hydrated. Your mineral salts have to come from celery, celery juice, coconut water, spinach, sea vegetables, lemons, and limes in our meals, because their naturally occurring sodium won’t dehydrate our organs. It’s actually very good for the liver, in part because this natural sodium clings to toxic, dangerous salts from poor quality foods and helps bind onto and draw them out of the body while replacing them with a special subgroup of sodium the liver really needs. Squeezing lemon or lime in water, flushes the liver of all these poisons and toxins first thing in the morning, flushes the body of toxins.
