1. É a águia mais poderosa do mundo. A fêmea pode pesar até 9 kg e ter mais de 2 m de envergadura.
2. As garras são maiores que as de um urso-pardo. A unha do hálux chega a 7 cm e ela captura presas de até 6 kg.
3. O cardápio tem preguiças, macacos, quatis, veados, araras e mutuns. Caça voando entre as árvores ou esperando no alto.
4. Os filhotes são branquinhos como na foto. Levam de 4 a 5 anos pra ganhar a plumagem adulta cinza-escuro.
5. O nome “harpia” vem da mitologia grega: monstros metade mulher, metade abutre. Linnaeus batizou em 1758.
6. Raramente plana. Prefere voos curtos e potentes dentro da mata fechada pra surpreender as presas.
7. Precisa de árvores gigantes pra fazer ninho e florestas enormes pra viver. Por isso é ameaçada pelo desmatamento.
