MISo much fun bringing close to 700 runners together for the Bitterroot Runoff trail runs last weekend. It’s rewarding to create experiences that bring this community of people together. It’s equally rewarding to put on trail races that are great introductions to the sport for trail curious runners. Don’t get me wrong, organizing the @runtherut is incredible, but local trail runs with shorter distances offer a perfect entry point for folks. Here is a short clip of the start of the 10 miler. So many people put enjoying the trails!

RI10 mile hike in the Bitterroot Wilderness today. Really hard and worth every rock, hill and canyon. The Little Rock Trail is anything but little and ends hiking up a hill about a mile high. Great day.

OUJust a short drive north of Darby, Montana is this beautiful Lake Como with one of the most beautiful backgrounds in the Bitterroot valley.
It’s a great place to cool off in the summer, the lake is ideal for boating, water skiing, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing.
The 7-mile-long Lake Como Loop Trail is ideal for hiking and mountain biking, and includes a pack bridge that crosses Rock Creek.
The lake has picnic areas, parking areas, a swimming area and beach, a picnic site and campgrounds.
Parking fee required for the beach.

Named in memory of one of BRLT’s original founders, 22-acre Steve Powell Park borders the Bitterroot River just north of the Hamilton Main Street Bridge and is located within walking distance to downtown Hamilton. The park features a well-maintained walking trail that takes users along the river and through a ponderosa pine woodlot. This area provides wonderful habitat for waterfowl, deer, and moose, as well as excellent fishing access for anglers.
Before officially opening in 2015, BRLT purchased the park property from the Taber family who had the vision to allow the public access to enjoy this park in perpetuity. Today, the park is owned and operated by the City of Hamilton. Thank you to the Taber family and for the legacy of Bitterroot Valley conservation set forth by Steve Powell, for this special gift to our community. Go check it out!

PIRiding the Route of the Hiawatha, July 24th. 2022, before leaving Wallace, ID / Silver Valley area.
The mountain bike or hike trail is 15 miles long with 10 train tunnels and 7 sky-high trestles!!! And some of the most spectacular vistas!
The ride starts with a trip through the 1.661 mile long St. Paul Pass Tunnel, also known as the Taft Tunnel. It is a highlight of the trail that follows the crest of the Bitterroot Mountains near Lookout Pass Ski Area. [We saw others put trash bags on when going through that tunnel, and for good reason. It's cold [like 45 degrees in the hot summer], wet [water seeping through the ceiling, raining on you, and making a ride through gravel soup] and you get SUPER dirty!]
Cool experience and views,, but be warned... This is a very touristy trail. May be a "no thanks, let's skip it" for many, but we wanted to see the tunnels, and those views everyone told us about. If we had more time, we would wait for a weekday, and maybe looked for an alternative to the main artery... You have to be ready for lots of other riders, at all skill levels. Do your research before riding it.
