Cozy Wozy Time The blanket stitch is often used to overcast the raw edge of fleece blankets, but it’s also used in embroidery and patchwork and it has other uses as well. This sewing tutorial will show you exactly how to do this hand stitch. Hand sewing is something to do when you’re relaxing and feel like you need to do something with your hands and this blanket stitch is a great way to start learning hand stitches. Practice her on a blanket and gift it to a friend or keep it for yourself. How to sew a blanket stitch: A blanket stitch is a simple and decorative stitch often used for finishing edges of fabric or creating a neat hem. 1. Thread the needle and tie a small knot at the end. 2. Make a loop with the first stitch and pass needle under the loop over fabric edge as shown in the tutorial, I like to do this twice for a neat first stitch. 3. To sew the first stitch, insert the needle a stitch length away from the start point and slightly below the edge of the fabric, keeping the needle pointing up (towards fabric edge). Loop thread behind the needle and pull needle through (up). This is your first blanket stitch.    4. Move a stitch length away along the edge, and repeat the process. 5. Keep the stitches evenly spaced for a neat appearance. 6. When you've finished stitching, tie off the thread securely at the back of the fabric. 🫶🪡✨ #sewingtutorial #sewinginstagram #handstitching #blanketstitch

How to sew #6 blanket stitch- 10 stitches you need to know: Blanket stitch is a decorative and functional hand stitch used to finish raw fabric edges and prevent fraying. It is commonly used on thick fabrics, felt, and blankets, and also as a decorative edge. To sew the blanket stitch, bring the needle through the fabric near the edge, loop the thread behind the needle, and pull the needle up to form a loop along the edge. Repeat evenly across the edge. The blanket stitch is probably one of my most used stitches. So I thought it might be a good idea to share some important parts of the stitch aside from just the actual stitch itself: how to stop and tie off, how to restart where you left off, and how to pull out unwanted stitches. #olivethisfelt #indepth #refreshercourse #blanketstitch #embroiderystitch #embroiderytutorial #tutorial #tipsandtricks #howtosew #howto #stepbystep #stitchalong #sewingtips #embroiderer #slowstitching #handstitching #sewing #sewinglesson #sewingtutorial #handsewing #sewwithme #sewalong

New video tutorial on my YouTube channel!🧵 Blanket / Buttonhole Stitch Variations and examples of use 🪡 Swipe up on my stories or find me on YouTube as “Embroidery Art by Nat” to watch this video tutorial ✨ I’m using 3 strands of floss and will start stitching using the far away knot. If you don’t know about this method please watch my first video tutorial for the sampler guide book, I show and explain it details there. Basically I leave this thread in the beginning to use it for finishing and hiding the ends without having a huge knots on the back side, because I want my pages to be flat. I like to start blanket stitch from one straight stitch, then put your needle down under the line and come up on the base line, take the working thread over the needle and pull through. You can change the look of the blanked stitch by changing the spaces between the stitches and also by changing the length of the spokes. There are lots of examples of the possible variations in my view tutorial. You will learn the following stitches: #blanketstitch also known as #buttonholestitch #whippedblanketstitch #opencretanstitch #closedbuttonhole #upanddownbuttonholestitch and how to stitch flowers and leaves using those stitches 🪡 For those who are new here - this is an new project I’m working on for my Patreons. It’s a book made completely from fabric, each page is going to be a stitched sampler for one stitch or a group of stitches - this is such a fun project! Each of you will make a unique soft book for yourself. I also left the links to all the supplies I used for this project in the video description on YouTube 😉

Here with another quick hand-sewing tutorial! Today we’re doing the blanket stitch, a decorative stitch that helps clean up messy edges of your fabric while also looking beautiful. Once you watch the tutorial, you’ll see how simple this stitch is. We like to use this stitch when adding patches to our visible mending, but you can really use it any time you want a decorative edge! #sewingtutorial #sewingtutorialsforbeginners #sewingtips #sewingtipsandtricks #handsewing #handsewingtutorial #blanketstitch #handsew #sewing #sewingcommunity #sewistsofinstagram

🪡 Blanket stitch is really not too difficult once you practice a few times. But there is one thing I’ve noticed a lot of beginners overlook. 💡 Fully utilize the pointer finger of your non-dominate hand! While your dominant hand is doing most of the work, you can use the pointer finger of your other hand to manage the tension of your floss. This results in your stitches being more even— not too loose and not too tight. 👀 Pay attention to your non-dominant the next time you’re blanket stitching. You may be doing this without even realizing!

I thought it would be helpful to reshare this simple blanket stitch tutorial ✨ It’s the stitch I use for some Advent ornaments and for many of the projects you’ll see here in the future. The blanket stitch is a simple, overcasting sewing technique. It is used for different purposes such as finishing the edge of fabric, sewing two pieces together along the edges (shown in this tutorial) or layering pieces (aplique) -Ideally the distance between stitches and from stitch to edge should be equal, but this can vary. I usually stitch from left to right, going from back to front, but feel free to try the opposite and see what feels most natural to you. ✨ I’m curious — do you usually use the blanket stitch? Do you like it, or do you prefer another one? ❤️ Please note: this is simply the way I learned. There are a few ways to achieve the same result, and doing it differently doesn’t mean it’s wrong. 😊 If you find this tutorial useful, the sewing guide pattern is available in my shop ✨ #sewingtutorial #sewing101 #blanketstitch #blanketstitchtutorial #handsewing #feltsewing #diyornament #handmadeornaments #diycrafts #freepatterns #weekendproject #embroiderytutorial #feltpatterns

How I blanket stitch 🪡 Here I’m working with felt and using 6 strands of cotton embroidery floss. I like a chenille needle because it has a large eye and makes threading easier. Like anything, it takes practice, but eventually your hands work with you, not against you :) For a longer demo video (includes audio walk through aka me yappin) just comment BLANKET below and I’ll send you the link to watch it 🪡 I’ll include links to supplies I’m using too! #handsewing #birthdaycrown #handmadegifts #feltcrafts #feltcrown
