At night, they saw fire and stars. 🔥✨ Here’s why that’s a problem … For most of human history, your biology was perfectly aligned: ☀️ Daytime → full light spectrum → WAKE 🌙 Nighttime → darkness (no blue light) → melatonin → SLEEP 🕰️ This sets your circadian rhythm (aka your internal clock). 👉 Only in the last ~150 years, artificial light spread everywhere, but at least early bulbs were incandescent (warm, fire-like). 👉 Then in the early 2000s, efficiency laws basically banned incandescent light and pushed a rapid LED takeover (around 2012)… and our light environment changed FAST. Use the “red light trick” to block artificial blue light from your iPhone at night. I’m usually not a fan of sleep “tips & tricks,” but this is one trick I can get behind. I originally learned this from the biohacking sleep queen @mollie.eastman a few years ago. I’ve since used this on a nightly basis, and it’s been a game changer! Red light is best for optimizing your circadian health before bedtime. Steps to turn on the red light setting for iPhone: General settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters > Turn on color filters > Turn on color tint > Increase the intensity and hue to the max > Screen should appear red > Turn off color filters for now > Go back to main Accessibility settings and scroll to the bottom > Go into Accessibility Shortcut > Turn on color filters > Triple-click your side button to test! If changing your phone colors isn’t your thing, no worries. You can also try a pair of blue light blocking glasses with red lenses. I’m currently loving my pair of glasses from @filteroptix rated the best blue light blocking glasses of 2023 by The Sport Review. The frames are high quality and super light weight. Plus, the red lenses are specifically made for use before bedtime and are most effective at blocking 100% blue + green light.
