Everyone wants to be more flexible but very few actually want to put in the work. Like anything else you want to be good at it takes time. I always say, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Here are five things you can do to help your flexibility journey! 1. Be consistent; you can’t hop onto your mat once a week and think that you’re going to see immediate progress. Shorter sessions multiple times a week vs. one 75 minute session I believe is more beneficial. 2. Focus on technique and control; of course you can cheat your way into a lot of poses but it doesn’t mean that you’re doing them correctly. Always focus on alignment before exploring depth. Quality movement and steady breathing is greater than pushing deeper. 3. Be patient; listen to your body. It should never be painful but you should feel something. If it’s uncomfortable, I always find that to be a good thing as you’ve hit your edge and from there, focus on breathing deeply, let go of tension and allow the pose to work on your body. 4. Integrate mobility with strength and stability; this allows for a safer practice and more functional range of motion. I used to be a flexible noodle but after gaining strength, my flexibility transformed. 5. Always warm up and cool down; it’s never safe to think that you can just hop into splits, the body needs time to acclimate and overall this will lead to a safer practice. Happy Training 💕
