In 1995, Brendan Eich was a programmer at Netscape. His manager gave him 10 days to create a scripting language for the browser. 10 days. Eich locked himself in and wrote the first version of JavaScript in May 1995. It wasn't perfect. It had quirks. But it worked. Today, JavaScript runs on 98% of all websites. Every interactive website you've ever used—Google, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix—is built on the language Eich created in 10 days. But that's just the beginning. In 1998, Netscape open-sourced its browser code and launched the Mozilla project. Eich became a core architect. By 2004, Mozilla released Firefox—a fast, open-source alternative to Internet Explorer. Within years, Firefox captured over 30% of the browser market. A billion people used it. Eich became Mozilla's CTO, then CEO. But in 2014, he was forced to resign after 11 days as CEO due to political controversy. Most people would have disappeared. Eich didn't. In 2015, he co-founded Brave Software. His vision? A browser that blocks ads and trackers by default. No surveillance. No data harvesting. No selling user behavior to the highest bidder. Brave launched in 2016. It was built on Chromium, the same open-source engine as Chrome, but stripped of Google's tracking. Every ad, every tracker, every cookie—blocked automatically. Users got their privacy back. Pages loaded 3x to 6x faster. But Eich didn't stop there. He introduced Brave Rewards—a system that pays users in Basic Attention Token (BAT) for viewing privacy-respecting ads. Users control their data. Users get paid. Not advertisers. Not Google. This flipped the entire business model of the internet. Google makes $200+ billion a year by tracking users and selling that data to advertisers. Facebook makes $100+ billion doing the same. Today, Brave has over 70 million monthly active users. It's the fastest-growing browser in the world. And Eich? He's still building. P.S: You’re consuming this content. Now imagine owning a page like this — and monetizing it. The image captures the legendary Brendan Eich, a figure whose 10-day sprint in 1995 fundamentally changed the DNA of the internet. By creating JavaScript, he gave the web its heartbeat—turning static pages into the dynamic, interactive world we navigate today. But as the caption cheekily suggests, being the "father" of the world’s most used (and often most debated) programming language comes with its own set of existential ironies. The post highlights Eich’s evolution from an architect of the web to its most vocal protector. After co-founding Mozilla, he pivoted to launch Brave, a browser built on the radical yet simple premise that privacy is a fundamental right, not a premium feature. While JavaScript enabled the very tracking and intrusive ads that now plague our screens, Eich’s later work with Brave and the Basic Attention Token (BAT) aims to "atone" for that chaos. He is rebuilding the ecosystem to be faster, cleaner, and strictly user-centric. Whether you love or hate the quirks of JS, there is no denying that Eich has spent his career shaping—and then saving—the digital landscape. It’s a classic tech redemption arc: from creating the tools of the trade to engineering the shields that protect us from them. The image highlights Brendan Eich, a pivotal figure in the history of the internet, alongside the logo of the Brave Browser. Eich is most famously known for creating JavaScript, the programming language that powers the interactive web, in just ten days back in 1995 while at Netscape. This "ten-day sprint" fundamentally changed how humans interact with technology, though it also led to the complex, script-heavy web environment we navigate today. The meme-style caption suggests a narrative of "atonement," implying that his later work—specifically founding Brave Software—is an attempt to fix the privacy and performance issues that grew out of the modern, JavaScript-dependent internet. Brave is a privacy-focused browser built to block intrusive ads and trackers by default, aiming to give users more control over their personal data. By integrating a unique reward system and focusing on speed, the browser attempts to redefine the relationship between creators, advertisers, and consumers. The contrast in the image underscores a career-long evolution: from building the engine that made the web dynamic to developing the shields that protect users from its most invasive consequences. It captures the dual legacy of a man who both built the digital world and then sought to reform it.
