The Burmese python (Python bivittatus) is a fascinating species, but it is often misunderstood. Here are some common misconceptions: 1. They Are Aggressive While they are powerful constrictors, Burmese pythons are generally docile, especially captive-bred individuals. They may bite if threatened, but they usually rely on constriction rather than aggression. 2. They Are Venomous Burmese pythons are non-venomous. They kill their prey by constriction, not by injecting venom. 3. They Can Unhinge Their Jaws Snakes do not actually “unhinge” their jaws. Instead, their lower jawbones are connected by a flexible ligament, allowing them to stretch their mouths wide enough to swallow large prey. 4. They Are Native to Florida Burmese pythons are native to Southeast Asia, not Florida. The invasive population in the Florida Everglades is the result of escaped or released pet pythons. 5. They Are Slow and Clumsy Despite their size, Burmese pythons are surprisingly agile swimmers and climbers. They can also strike with impressive speed when hunting. 6. They Are the Largest Snake in the World While they are among the largest snakes, the green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) holds the record for the heaviest, and the reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus) is often considered the longest. 7. They Will Chase and Attack Humans Burmese pythons do not actively hunt humans. Attacks are extremely rare and usually occur when people provoke or mishandle them. 8. They Can Eat Anything, Even Humans While they have been known to consume large prey like deer and alligators, attacks on humans are almost unheard of in the wild. Their diet mainly consists of birds, mammals, and reptiles. 9. They Reproduce Rapidly Like Insects Although they lay large clutches (up to 100 eggs), their reproduction is limited by environmental conditions and food availability. 10. They Are Indestructible While they are hardy and adaptable, Burmese pythons are still vulnerable to extreme cold, starvation, and predation, especially when young. #fyp #explore #explorepage #explorepage✨ #trending #education

wait for it 🐍🥚 how many eggs do you think this 16 ft mama python had? This was the larger of TWO invasive Burmese python nests @kyletheguy_ @snakeaholic and I got at the SAME TIME this day!! It was literally one of the best days of my life, and it’s all in our new YouTube video where we remove 431 python eggs!! If tactfully executed, we have a lot of hope that this methodology of removal can be used to save a lot of native wildlife. Check it out to see the full capture - link is in my bio :) #TheCritterCult #jointhecult #savetheEverglades

Spending some time with this beautiful Yellow Burmese Python at Fame Park in Dubai! 🐍💛 These stunning snakes are a specific color morph, an amelanistic version of a regular Burmese Python, which means they lack dark pigment and rock that yellow and white pattern! In the wild, these snakes are native to Southeast Asia and can reach impressive lengths of 16-20 feet! They are know for being excellent swimmers and can stay submerged for up to 30 minutes. Always an amazing experience being with these snakes! 🤗🌟

Judith the Burmese Python has officially moved into her brand-new home! Judith came to us about a year ago, but her habitat has been in the works long before she arrived. We built this enclosure to give her plenty of room to stretch, climb, and display natural behaviors safely and comfortably. Burmese pythons, like Judith, are native to Southeast Asia, where they are considered vulnerable in the wild due to habitat loss and overcollection for the pet and skin trade. However, in parts of the United States—particularly southern Florida—they’ve become an invasive species, thriving in the Everglades where they have few natural predators and can negatively impact native wildlife populations. These snakes are incredibly large animals, capable of reaching lengths over 15 feet and weighing more than a small child. They are powerful ambush predators and constrictors that require specialized care, very large enclosures, and significant food resources. Because of their size and potential ecological impact, Burmese pythons are not legal to own in some cities and states. Judith is 11 years old and now lives in a space built just for her — complete with reinforced rockwork, a filtered pond, climate-controlled lighting, and live plants for enrichment. She serves as one of our ambassador reptiles, helping guests learn about both the beauty and the responsibility that comes with caring for large species like hers. And she has an even bigger space coming! This habitat is part of our ongoing expansion, and we’re already preparing for our next major build: a smooth-fronted caiman environment! #ReptileHusbandry #AnimalHusbandry #ReptileCare #ReptileWellbeing #ReptileHealth #Herpetoculture #Herpetology #ResponsibleReptileKeeping #CaptiveCare #EnclosureDesign #reptiles #reptilesofinstagram #ExoticAnimalCare #WildlifeEducation #ReptileBehavior #VivariumCare #ReptileSetup #ReptileEnvironment #SnakeCare #ReptileCommunity #ChesapeakeVA #ChesapeakeHomeschool #OBXThingsToDo #OuterBanksFamilyFun #OBXFamilyActivities #HamptonRoadsKids #VirginiaHomeschool #LocalLearning
