The most important thing to do is to get your child to A&E as soon as possible‼️
In the meantime, some studies have shown that feeding your child 2 teaspoons of honey every 10 minutes may help to reduce damage caused to internal tissues by the battery. This is because the honey coats the battery and forms a barrier between the tissues and the battery itself.
Dont give your child anything else to eat or drink and don’t try to make them vomit!
REMEMBER ⚠️Only give your child honey if they are older than 12 months.

ANWhy swallowing button batteries is an emergency ‼️

➡️ LOTS of people don't know these new batteries are available.
They cause an alkaline burn which can severely damage your babies swallowing pipe (oesophagus), stomach or gut
In severe cases button batties can burn a hole in little ones breathing tube (trachea) and they may need to go on life support
If you can, the best thing to do is remove all button batteries from your home
🏥 Head to your nearest emergency department if your little ones is breathing normally, has no sudden or severe pain or other red flag signs
🚑 Call and ambulance if they are struggling to breathe, have severe pain or have red flags signs such as reduced consciousness

Zander had never been to a hospital until December 23rd , 2022 when he ingested a button battery off of a Christmas card.
Within 12 hours my baby was rushed into surgery to remove said battery and he spent the next 75 days taking medications 3 times a day to repair the damage that the battery caused in just 12 hours of being in his body.
The gag, the insurance will only cover the medicine in pill form. PILL FORM FOR A 16 month old is unreal. I’m instructed by the doctors to purchase a pill crusher and give him his meds mixed with flavored applesauce . At the time this didn’t seem like a big deal. I mean he loved applesauce , so the idea seemed genius. We spent 75 days doing this 3 times a day not knowing we were reeking havoc on his dental health for the foreseeable future.
The sugars in the applesauce spent 75 days of his life building a sugary environment for his teeth to then have to live with forever. It caused a kind of “Bottle rot,” also known as baby bottle tooth decay. It’s a type tooth decay that affects infants and toddlers, primarily in the upper front teeth. It occurs when sugary liquids like milk, formula, or juice pool around the teeth, but in his case it wasn’t from a bottle it was from flavored applesauce that had up to 24 grams of sugars per serving. In 75 days time my son had consumed 5,400 grams of sugar. An applesauce that he went from eating maybe 2-3 times a week was now being consumed 21 times a week for 6 weeks straight. The sugars feed harmful bacteria in the mouth, producing acids that erode tooth enamel and lead to cavities.
He only had maybe 6 teeth at the time of his incident but the sugars were thriving on his gum line .
He would get his teeth brushed twice a day like normal but I didn’t know that wouldn’t be enough to cause the terrible horrible situation we are faced with today.
We’ve spent the past 2.5 years being told how bad his teeth were. Tried our best to keep candy and sugar out of his way. His drink of choice is water so we knew he wasn’t getting much exposure but every appointment it never got better.

MIIf a lithium button battery is swallowed and becomes stuck in the oesophagus, corrosive injury can develop within 2 hours.
The injury’s severity depends on the battery’s size, the current it produces and the length of time it is lodged.
Energy from the battery reacts with saliva to create caustic soda, which can burn through the food pipe to the main artery and lead to catastrophic internal bleeding and death
A dead battery is less likely to cause as much damage, but as batteries can still produce a charge for up to 10 years, all incidents should be treated as emergencies.
Lithium cell batteries can also cause life-changing injuries. The food pipe could become too severely damaged for a child to eat normally again, or the vocal cords could be damaged so much that a child may not be able to speak normally again.
Button batteries like this can be found in many household appliances, children’s toys, and gadgets, we’ll pop some common examples in our Stories.
If you suspect your child has swallowed a button battery, act fast:
😞 Take them straight to the A&E department at your local hospital or dial 999 for an ambulance.
⚠️ Tell the doctor there that you think your child has swallowed a button battery.
⚠️ If you have the battery packaging or the product powered by the battery, take it with you, this will help the doctor identify the type of battery and make treatment easier.

⚠️ Do not let your child eat or drink.
⚠️ Do not make them sick.
Trust your instincts and act fast – do not wait to see if any symptoms develop, as these can vary and come and go.
Most button batteries pass through the body without a problem but be vigilant. Keep any item with an easily removable battery compartment away from children and store old and new batteries out of reach.

Button Battery Awareness Day was established in 2021 by Trista Hamsmith in memory of her 18-month-old daughter, Reese, who tragically passed away after ingesting a button battery.Every year in the U.S., over 3,500 children swallow button batteries. Tragically, some of these cases lead to permanent injury or even death-with at least one child dying every five days from button battery ingestion.
Button batteries look harmless-tiny, round, and easily mistaken for candy. But once swallowed (or stuck in the nose or ear), they can burn through tissue fast: causing esophageal perforation, vocal cord paralysis, and life-altering injuries.
And the scariest part? Your child might seem completely fine at first. No symptoms doesn’t mean no danger.
