If you don’t mind mud and can embrace, and aren’t too nervous about heights this trail is gorgeous and lots of fun. There are amazing views the whole way and at the end we even saw a few whales way off in the distance. So worth the muddy mess. 📍Cape Lookout Trail, Cape Lookout State Park, Pacific City, OR Cape Lookout Trail on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/oregon/cape-lookout?sh=fwmax4&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality #capelookoutstatepark #capelookout #oregon #oregoncoast #hiking #hikingadventures #alltrails #alltrailsapp #mud #mudding

🏖️🌊✨ Exploring the iconic Cape Lookout Lighthouse on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast! With its stunning black-and-white diamond pattern, this historic beacon has guided ships since 1812. 🗺️💡 Although it’s currently undergoing renovations, the breathtaking views from the 207-step climb will be worth the wait! Happy Opening Day from Cape Lookout National Seashore! Today, the park begins a new season. Vehicle ferries will off-load vehicles to South Core Banks from Davis, NC. Great Island Cabin Camp, Light Station Visitor Center, and Keeper's Quarters Museum are open for visitors. If you are not riding over to the barrier islands, the Harkers Island Visitor Center also welcomes you to stop in. We look forward to seeing you throughout the season! Video Description: A series of videos from the park. A park ranger puts on a flat hat with text above her that reads "Get Ready with Us for Opening Day!", a close up of a National Park badge, a biologist ties her shoe in front of a sign that reads "Harkers Island Visitor Center", a close up of an Island Express Ferry tickets with the ferry in background, waves coming towards the camera with a blue sky, horses walking through water, sweeping from right to left the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and the Keeper's Quarters with water in the foreground, walking the boardwalk leading to trees and the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, bricks leading to Cape Lookout Lighthouse with the lighthouse against a blue sky, two volunteers stand on the Keeper's Quarters porch while waving, a park ranger wearing a flat hat throws a baseball to a law enforcement ranger holding a bat, "Happy Opening Day from Cape Lookout National Seashore" appears on the screen and fades to a black background. One of our goals going into our trip last week was to visit all five of the lighthouses in the Outer Banks and I’m here to say— mission accomplished! (Disclaimer: Cape Lookout is also considered a lighthouse in the Outer Banks, but that was further south and way too far. We covered that one a couple of years ago! ☺️) These are the five lighthouse that are doable if you’re taking a trip to the Outer Banks and WELL WORTH IT!! Our kids loved being able to count down the lighthouses and to see how they were different. We talked a lot about the lighthouses and it was the perfect homeschool summer lesson 🙌🏽 Here they are in order: 📍Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse in Manteo. You can go right up to it and walk around inside, but cannot climb “upstairs.” Highly recommend walking around Manteo. 📍Bodie Lighthouse (pronounced “body”) 10 minutes from Nags Head and our FAVORITE! Go at sunset and take a walk and picnic. You can pay to climb to the top! 📍Ocracoke Lighthouse Located on Ocracoke Island, south of Cape Hatteras, and requires a 1 hour ferry ride. Worth it! Go in the morning so you can explore Ocracoke island before shops close at 4-5pm. You cannot climb to the top. 📍 Cape Hatteras Currently under a massive renovation, but still worth seeing! The gift shop and museum are still open and we loved learning about where it originally stood and how it moved locations. Currently, you cannot climb to the top. 📍Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla There’s so much to do around here, it’s a must! Wild pony and AWD beach are only 10 minutes away. Beautiful area to walk around and you can pay to climb to the top! If you’re taking a family vacation to the Outer Banks this summer or anytime soon, we cannot recommend this little tour enough. It gave us a great opportunity to explore the Outer Banks in a fun way and our kids LOVED it! If you’ve been, tell me your fave lighthouse and in the meantime, share this with someone you wanna do it with! #motherhood #messymotherhood #familyvacation #outerbanks #obx #toddlermom #toddlermomlife #realmom #realmomlife #tripideas #northcarolina

Send this to the person you want to go to @twocapeslookout with! 🪵🌲🌊 Have you ever been somewhere that makes time feel like it slows way down? @twocapeslookout is the dreamiest coastal getaway, tucked just north of Cape Kiwanda and South of Cape Lookout - under two hours from Portland. #hosted 🎁There is a discount code at the end! We stayed in one of their geodesic domes. Cozy, warm, and with the most magical front-row view of the stormy ocean. It has that perfect glamping vibe and makes for an incredible winter escape, perfect to watch the king tides from bed, all snug in your blankets. The private bath house is heated, beautifully maintained, and just steps from the dome. The beach is only a 5-minute walk away, and Cape Kiwanda is a quick drive with tons of great restaurant options. And you have to climb the iconic giant dune! It’s a short but steep trek, and the views of the Pacific, Haystack Rock, and the rugged coastline are absolutely worth it. If you book your stay by next Sunday, Dec 14, you’ll get 20% off using my code KERWS20. The code is valid for stays from now through April 2026. Truly such a gem, highly recommend! As a North Carolina native, the Outer Banks is one of my FAVE places to explore!! Here are my recommendations 🤗⤵️ My favorite things to do: • Explore the lighthouses (maybe even climb one if you’re feeling adventurous) • Watch sunset at Jockey’s Ridge State Park • Eat an apple ugly from Orange Blossom Bakery • Go horseback riding on the beach with Equine Adventures in Frisco • Drive on the 4x4 beaches (make sure to research permit requirements and best practices) • Walk around Currituck Banks Reserve • Look for the wild horses in Corolla (feeding the wild horses or getting within 50 feet of them is punishable by law) • Explore Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge • Grab tacos from Eduardo’s for lunch and spend an afternoon exploring Springer’s Point Preserve on Ocracoke Island • Take the ferry from Harkers Island to Cape Lookout and spend the day exploring or camp overnight Different areas & their vibe: • Northern Beaches (Corolla, Duck) – Quieter, upscale rentals, and wild horses roaming around. • Central Outer Banks (Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head) – The busiest area, full of restaurants, shops, and activities. • Hatteras & Ocracoke Islands – More remote, wild beaches and small-town charm. If you want to get to Ocracoke, you’ll need to take a ferry! • Cape Lookout National Seashore – Only accessible by ferry, with no roads, wild camping, and a beautiful lighthouse. To sum it up: If you want to be close to everything, staying in a central area is your best bet. For a quieter, more relaxing getaway (if you don’t mind a little extra driving), go with either the Northern Beaches or Hatteras/Ocracoke. And if you’re looking for a true adventure, Cape Lookout is the way to go. Where to stay: • Search “Pod Messi Airbnb” or “Pod Zues Airbnb” to find the cutest tiny homes in Kitty Hawk • If you’re feeling adventurous, try camping on Cape Lookout National Seashore LMK if you have any questions!! If you’ve ever been to the Outer Banks, I’d love to hear about it in the comments :) #outerbanks #outerbanksnc #northcarolinaliving #obx #visitnc #beautifuldestinations #weekendgetaway

This is what it looks like to walk beside wild horses on a remote island in North Carolina. Shackleford Banks is part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore and home to around 100 wild horses that have roamed free for centuries. No roads, no buildings; just dunes, waves, and hoofprints in the sand. These horses are believed to be descendants of Spanish mustangs brought here in the 1500s! They’re one of my very favorite things about Shackleford Banks and seeing them makes it so special. Have you ever seen wild horses on a beach?! 🐴 #shacklefordbanks #mycrystalcoast #sobx #visitnc
