LA🐹Los “conejillos de Indias” (o cobayas) no son conejos, ya que pertenecen a un género de roedores (Cavia) propio de Sudamérica. Está más emparentados con roedores como las ratas o los castores, que con los conejos.
🐹Tampoco son de la India, ya que son originarios de Sudamérica, principalmente de la zona andina de Perú, Bolivia, Ecuador; y por tanto, su nombre viene de la “famosa” confusión histórica donde los europeos pensaron que habían llegado a “las Indias” en vez de a América.
🐹 Mientras que en la zona andina se usaban como alimento por su proteína y facilidad de crianza y reproducción, su llegada a Europa transformó su status, pasando a ser dóciles y exóticas mascotas de lujo.
🐹Solo las familias más acomodadas podían poseer una de estas criaturas, traídas de ultramar, que constituían no solo una rareza, sino también un símbolo de distinción y privilegio de acceso a los mundos recién descubiertos.
🐹De hecho, hay pinturas europeas del siglo XVI donde ya aparecen cobayas como mascotas de familias ricas.

Na 1 jaar en 5 maanden na de opening kan ik zeggen dat de 300ste cavia ondertussen is opgevangen in het asiel. 🐹 Het gaat zó snel… en het was ook broodnodig. 300 kleine leventjes die even nergens anders terecht konden en tijdelijk hier een warm plekje kregen. 💛
Had ik dit ooit verwacht? Eerlijk… ? Ik niet.
Maar ik ben blij dat ik er voor hen kon zijn. 🥹🐹
