In a quiet classroom in Russia, a teacher decided to conduct a simple social and developmental experiment. He gathered a group of boys and girls, all of the same age, to participate in a basic marching exercise. The goal was to observe how they would respond to the rhythmic commands and maintain coordination. As the exercise began, the differences were immediately apparent. The girls moved with an almost innate sense of rhythm and unity. Their steps were synchronized, and they seemed to anticipate the beat, moving as a single, cohesive unit. Their focus was unwavering, reflecting a level of maturity and discipline that seemed ahead of their years. In contrast, the boys’ performance was a chaotic display of energy and individuality. Some struggled to find the rhythm, their movements jerky and out of sync. Others were easily distracted, bumping into one another or losing their place in the line. Despite the teacher’s repeated commands, the boys’ coordination lagged behind, highlighting the varied pace at which motor skills and social discipline develop during childhood. This simple exercise captured a poignant moment of growth, illustrating how even at the same age, the paths to maturity can be strikingly different. It served as a reminder of the unique journeys every child takes as they navigate the complexities of development. What do you think about this fascinating look at development? Jean Piaget proposed that children do not understand the world instantly. Cognitive development unfolds in stages. According to his theory, children actively construct knowledge through interaction with their environment. They learn by touching, testing, observing, dropping, tasting, and experimenting. Understanding is built piece by piece. One of Piaget’s most well known concepts is object permanence. Object permanence refers to the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they are out of sight. For adults, this seems obvious. For infants, it is a developmental milestone that emerges gradually during the sensorimotor stage. When a toy is hidden and a baby searches for it, we are not just seeing curiosity. We are witnessing cognitive growth. Observing how a child responds when something is hidden, moved, or blocked offers insight into how their thinking is organizing itself. These small moments reflect the formation of memory, representation, and logical reasoning. Cognitive development is not automatic. It is constructed through experience. Piaget’s work reminds us how complex and delicate the process of building a mind truly is. child development, cognitive development, object permanence, sensorimotor stage, developmental psychology, Jean Piaget, experiment #childdevelopment #developmentalpsychology #cognitivedevelopment #parenting #psychology

Hanging from a bar might look simple… but it's powerful brain training. 🧠 Here's what's actually happening: 🧠 Proprioceptive input Hanging sends strong sensory input through the joints and muscles, helping the brain understand where the body is in space, which can reduce overwhelm and improve regulation. 🫁 Breath and nervous system It naturally slows breathing and helps shift the body out of stress mode into a more regulated state. ⚡ Brain coordination Grip, shoulders, and core all work together, strengthening communication between both sides of the brain. 🌪 Less fidget, more focus Kids with ADHD often seek movement. Hanging gives high input in a controlled way, which calms instead of overstimulates. Just 60 seconds a day can support focus, coordination, and emotional regulation. Most parents are told to manage behavior. Very few are shown how to regulate the brain. 💬 Comment GUIDE and we'll send you the link to get our Brain & Behavior Clarity Guide that includes simple exercises you can start at home. #neurofitconnections #adhdhelp #braintraining #childdevelopment

Girls who get smartphones earlier are more likely to struggle with anxiety and eating disorders just a couple years later. It’s not instant, it builds over time. The effect is cumulative. What’s more concerning is that many teens know their device is making them feel worse but they still don’t want to stop, or they can’t. That’s how dependency and addiction works. And it’s exactly how these platforms are designed. The goal was to addict us. #DigitalParenting #MentalHealth #Screentime #DrCarrieMackensen #ChildDevelopment

Children aren’t wired to maintain neatness, they’re wired to discover. The clutter, the spills, and the noise are not problems, they’re signs that learning is happening in the moment through trial and experience. When every attempt is interrupted just to keep things tidy, curiosity and independent thinking get restricted. Exploration naturally looks messy because that is how problem solving develops. A perfectly clean home and a growing mind often pull in opposite directions, and that is completely normal. I’m not gonna lie often when I scroll & see these very skilled toddlers helping in a tower that aren’t making any mess & their motor skills are amazing I start to feel bad, like maybe I’m doing something wrong? But it’s easy to not show what comes before a “capable toddler”. They need to make mistakes & mess before they learn to not make them. Right now meal times are very chaotic, but I have to welcome the chaos in order to get the calm. #montessori #momsofinstagram #earlychildhoodeducation #childdevelopment #toddlermomlife

🧩 Not all children play the same way—and that can teach us a lot about development. In this video, I show three different ways children may interact with the same toy: 👦 Typical child: tends to use the toy functionally, exploring it the way it was designed to be used. 🧠 Child with autism: may focus on specific parts of the object, such as spinning wheels or organizing pieces, exploring patterns and repetition. ⚡ Child with ADHD: often shows more movement, shifts quickly between activities, and explores multiple stimuli at the same time. 💡 Observing how a child plays can provide important clues about their development, attention, and how they explore the world. This does not replace a professional evaluation, but it can help parents and educators become more aware. 👀 Have you ever noticed how your child or student plays? A message for adults who rush to help toddlers too quickly. Yesterday I watched a two-year-old work with the Pink Tower after only one presentation. For ten minutes she struggled to understand the gradation of the cubes. She tried, adjusted, corrected, and tried again. The adult sitting nearby felt the strong urge many of us feel:“Let me help her. She has only seen it once.” But the child refused the help. She wanted the work to remain hers. On the one occasion she briefly accepted the adult’s presence, she allowed only a tiny cue, and then continued on her own, patiently grading the cubes one by one. That moment was a powerful reminder: Toddlers are not fragile learners. They are extraordinarily resilient. The toddler years are perhaps the most resilient period of human development. Yet it is also the age where adults often interrupt the process too quickly. We step in with help long before help is needed. When adults step in too early, we may solve the problem, but we also quietly take away the child’s opportunity to discover their own capability. And slowly, without meaning to, we begin to erode something very important: their trust in themselves. Children do not need constant help. They need adults who can pause, observe, and trust their effort long enough for the child to succeed through their own work. Sometimes the greatest act of support is restraint. #montessori #montessoritoddler #pinktower #followthechild #childdevelopment
