If you’re a Kindergarten teacher, this is your Week 9 Literacy Group inspiration 💫 . This week we’re unlocking a new phase of sounds: DMGOCK, which means we can start introducing a whole range of new phonics activities 🙌 . You might notice that some of these activities look familiar if you’ve been following my previous weeks. That’s intentional! When students already know how the activity works, you can keep rotating the same resources while simply changing the phonics focus. It keeps students confident and engaged while also saving you a lot of prep time. Here’s what we’re doing this week: 👉 Sentence Building Station Students use the sentence strip they’re given and build the word using the picture prompts. You can easily differentiate this activity: • Support students can use the spelling prompts • Extension students can complete the sentence without them Students build the word, write the sentence and then check their work using the answer sheet. 👉 CVC Phonics Memory Now that we’ve introduced DMGOCK, we can expand this memory game. Students flip one card with a dot and one without, read the word and see if they’ve found a match. You can also turn this into a spelling activity by having students write the word instead. 👉 DMGOCK Beginning Sound Bingo Students roll the dice and identify the beginning sound. For example, if they land on go, they identify the sound g. For an extension, they can actually write the letter instead of just covering the picture. 👉 CK Beginning Sound Bingo To consolidate the last sound in the phase, students play CK bingo. Someone becomes the card caller, reads the card and players cover the matching picture on their board. First player to cover their board calls bingo and becomes the next caller. Simple routines. New sounds.
