In fact, some “protein sources” are doing more harm than good when it comes to inflammation, toxins, and long-term health. Here are 4 I avoid: ❌ Processed meats — yes, that means lunch meat, charcuterie boards, hot dogs, and even beef sticks. These are classified as carcinogens by the WHO and are strongly linked to higher cancer risk. ❌ Protein bars — marketed as “healthy,” but most are full of processed isolates, artificial sweeteners, seed oils, and additives that create more inflammation than nourishment. ❌ Conventional meat — animals raised with hormones, antibiotics, and fed inflammatory grains. This disrupts your gut and floods your body with unnecessary toxins. ❌ Farm-raised seafood — often contaminated with antibiotics, pesticides, and heavy metals, with far fewer omega-3s compared to wild-caught fish. ✨ The good news? You can still enjoy delicious, nourishing proteins — just choose wisely: 
✅ Grass-fed/finished meats
✅ Pasture-raised poultry + eggs

Personally I don’t find the puritanical mindset regarding ultra-processed foods all that helpful. You can eat UPF and still be healthy. In fact, avoiding it all together can be unhealthy. There are many ultra-processed foods I consume daily - plant milks, nutritional yeast, protein powder to name a few. Yes this video is a Whole-food plant-based recipe (Dense Bean Salad) which has nothing to do with the VO 🤣 but if you’re inspired by the UPF conversation it’s the perfect recipe to give a go. Ingredients Juice of one lemon 2 fat, minced garlic cloves 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1/2 tbsp dried oregano 1/2 tsp salt, + more to taste 1/4 tbsp black pepper 80g fresh kale, de-stemmed, washed and roughly chopped 1/3 of a red onions finely diced 200g dried pasta 2.5 tins mixed beans, about 600g drained weight 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped 1 yellow bell pepper, finely chopped 1 small cucumber, finely chopped 200g crumbled extra firm tofu (I used fermented tofu, if not using fermented tofu season the crumbled tofu with lemon and salt before adding) Small handful of chopped parsley 70g chopped, pitted Kalamata olives 1 red or green chilli, finely chopped (optional) Method: Prep and chop all the veg, drain the beans and cook the pasta in very salty water, according to the packet instructions. Measure out the dressing ingredients so you’re good to go. In a large mixing bowl, add the lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper, then whisk together and season to taste. Add the kale leaves and massage for 2-3 minutes with your hands. You want the leaves to soften. Taste one to see! Then add the raw onion and toss well. Add all the rest of the ingredients and give a good toss with your hands (or tongs if you like). Serve with some toasted seeds for crunch! #upf #ultraprocessed #proteinbar

Doch ein Blick auf die Zutatenliste verrät schnell, ob es wirklich in deinen Körper gehört. 🌻 Warum raffiniertes Sonnenblumenöl problematisch ist: Es klingt harmlos, aber in Wahrheit wird es unter extremer Hitze und Druck gewonnen. Dabei entstehen instabile Omega-6-Fettsäuren, die Entzündungen im Körper fördern können. Gerade bei regelmäßigem Konsum kann das dein hormonelles Gleichgewicht und deine Zellgesundheit beeinträchtigen. Anstatt also die wertvollen Vorteile von „Öl“ zu bekommen, führst du deinem Körper oxidierte Fette zu, die er schwer abbauen kann. 🌾 Und was ist mit Reissirup? Klingt nach einer sanften, natürlichen Alternative, ist aber im Prinzip Zucker mit neuem Namen. Dein Blutzucker steigt genauso an, Insulin wird ausgeschüttet, Heißhunger kommt zurück. Nur weil er „gesünder klingt“, macht er dich nicht automatisch fitter oder schlanker. 💡 Die Wahrheit: Egal ob „clean“ betitelt oder mit hübschem Bio-Siegel versehen, viele Produkte im Supermarkt sind clever verpackt, aber bringen dir langfristig nichts für deine Gesundheit. ✅ Deshalb mein Tipp: Greif zu wirklich unverarbeiteten Lebensmitteln, checke die Zutatenliste kritisch und überlege: Würde ich das so in meiner eigenen Küche verwenden?
