OPChoosing and prepping for a cloud exam 👇 🤓

So, I’m thinking to book onto the KCNA (Kuberntes and Cloud Native Associate) exam. It’s a multiple choice exam, which is good (easier) and bad (lower quality perception) 🤷♂️ but the exam will at least provide an overview of the landscape—which is all I need/want at first 🙏

After that... depending on how hard it was / how excited I still am for more Kubernetes... I’ll think about taking the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) or the Certified Kubernetes Admin (CKA). These two exams are ❌ NOT multiple-choice, they’re hands-on, command-line based 🔨.

So... whilst I’ve been going through this process of understanding certifications, I did want to share my process, as I know a lot of you out there are thinking of taking many different certifications 🥇 But... I often see far too many folks jumping too quickly into random certifications without a proper approach.

Here’s mine 👇

1️⃣ Understand the “landscape” 🏔 - Take your time. Understand: What actually is the certification? What does it teach? How does it compliment your existing skills (avoid taking random certifications!)? How long would you need to study for? What is the value to employers?

2️⃣ Understand the exam guide 📚 - When you commit, it’s time to study the exam guide! What does the exam cover? It’s important to go broad so as to not miss topics, but it’s important you’re ruthless on what to avoid. What you ❌ DON’T learn is as important as what you ✅ DO learn. See it as a game... find all the topics you can safely ignore! 🙈

3️⃣ Structure your notes ✍️ - I like to have a section of the overview of the exam, my plan, blog posts, YouTube video’s, etc. Hands-on ideas tend to appear in my brain 🧠 randomly, so I write them down in a different section and work through those later to avoid being scattered.
