BAA side car cot can be an incredible sleep environment that allows parent and baby to have separate sleeping surfaces yet still be physically close and easily accessible to each other.
So let's set up a side car cot together:
1๏ธโฃ Take one side off the cot. If you don't have a cot where one side comes off, you can get creative, just ensure whatever you do, the cot still stays stable!
2๏ธโฃ Place the cot as close as possible to the bed
3๏ธโฃ Secure the cot to the bed
4๏ธโฃ Ensure the mattresses are the same height. For this I used furniture lifters (aka planks of wood) under the legs of the adult bed, but you could also saw some length off the height of the cot legs if needed, or use furniture lifters under the cot legs. Once again, whatever you do, make sure it's STABLE.
5๏ธโฃ Pack the gaps with firmly rolled up towels, some people suggest using pool noodles but they have more of a tendency to move and come free, so a tightly rolled up towel is a great option to prevent the baby getting stuck in gaps.
6๏ธโฃ All done โ๏ธ
We don't want any blankets or pillows in the cot, and the bed needs to be set up in a way so that it's safe for bedsharing in case the baby moves into your sleeping space.
