SOWhat happens when you pour too soon. 😭
Story time! While most of you are busy selling soaps at holiday markets, I've been working on what *should* be a simple tutorial on how to control trace (the rate that soap batter sets up) and recognize when the soap is ready to pour. Except it hasn't been simple!!!
First recording went "fine" but there was some pertinent info that I forgot to include, so I thought I'd try it again. This is my second try. Definitely failed to recognize when it was ready to pour.
On to my third try! Oh no. One color traced faster than the other two. Now I've failed to control trace!
Tomorrow....yes, tomorrow I will be making my fourth attempt. I've learned something with every batch. For what it's worth, I will share my best practices that *usually* work. But it's still a chemical reaction with a variety of factors and sometimes they don't react as expected!
I understand these incidents are not uncommon, so if you are also experiencing unexpected results in your soapmaking, feel free to vent in the comments!!

AShappy monday 🤍 it took me a minute to get this video edited this morning, but we’re cutting soap and that’s always a good way to start the week.
Today’s cut is our rose geranium + pink grapefruit bar — and little heads up… soon we’ll be changing the name to just grapefruit + geranium 🍊🌿 same dreamy bar, same fresh citrus-floral scent… just a simpler name.

RIAfter cutting, our cold process soap still needs time to cure. During this curing period, the extra water in the soap slowly evaporates.
As the water evaporates, the bar becomes harder, milder, and much longer lasting. The pH also settles, which makes the soap gentler for the skin.
So this waiting time is very important. It’s not just sitting there..the soap is actually maturing and becoming a better bar.

SMHere’s the final look at this long standing favorite restock. In this video I’m beveling the edges, just a simple finishing touch to make the bar glide a bit more smooth in the hand while in use.
This soap has been a customer favorite, it’s scented with a watermelon lemonade scent and smells divine.
These are made with goats milk and colloidal oats for a nice skin loving bar of soap.
