These ratings surprise people. Not because the activities are bad… but because admissions officers are looking past the title. Almost every activity on this list can be a 3/10… or a 9/10. It depends on how YOU show up. ❌ A nonprofit with no traction? Low impact. ✅ A part-time job where you take on real responsibility over time? Extremely compelling. ❌ A club you founded but never built? Forgettable. ✅ A local organization where you actually contributed and grew? That stands out. Admissions officers are not scoring the activity. They’re evaluating the engagement, the initiative, and the impact behind it. Which activities are you TRULY invested in… and which are just for show? #collegeadmissions #extracurriculars #highschoolstudents #ivyleague #collegeprep

The extracurricular that 3x's your odds of getting into Harvard Lumiere scholars had a 17.9% acceptance rate at Harvard. The overall rate is 3.5%. Independent research is the extracurricular most students sleep on. And it's the one that actually moves the needle. 1️⃣ Ask for 2 letters of recommendation Reach out to teachers early, ideally before senior year begins, so they have time to write thoughtful, detailed letters. 2️⃣ Prepare your activities list Organize your extracurriculars, roles, and impact. This will make completing applications much easier later on. 3️⃣ Complete a draft of your essay Getting a first draft done over the summer gives you time to revise and strengthen your story before deadlines. Starting early helps reduce stress and leads to stronger, more polished applications. 🎓 Save this if you’re planning ahead for college applications 💬 DM us if you want guidance through the process #highschooljunior #collegeapps #college #collegeprep #collegeadmissions

Most students relax after committing. That’s the mistake. The first 30 days quietly shape everything: your people, your classes, and your opportunities. You don’t need to do everything. But you do need to move early. Save this so you don’t fall behind before you even start. #decisionday #collegecommitment #classof2026 #collegeprep #freshmanyear

Most students think good grades are enough… they’re not. Admissions officers at top colleges are looking for signals most applicants completely miss. Here are 5 things they secretly LOVE seeing in applications: ✔️ Clear direction ✔️ Passion with depth ✔️ Initiative and leadership ✔️ Authentic essays ✔️ Real impact If you’re a high school student (or parent) trying to stand out in competitive college admissions, this is what actually makes a difference. 🎓 Don’t leave your application to chance. HOW MANY AP CLASSES DO I TAKE? For students aiming for competitive colleges, 8-12 throughout high school is common. The real goal is to show you took advantage of the most challenging curriculum available to you. Also, it’s better to excel in a manageable number of APs than struggle in too many. The best gauge is to look at how well you handled past rigor. We’ve noticed that most students struggle mental health-wise with more than 4 APs at once. That said, students should take all five core academic subjects—math, science, English, world language, and history—for all four years of high school. Take those to the highest level available to you where you can handle it and excel. #apclasses #collegeadmissions #darienct #katestone #collegeprep

Not all AP exams are equal. Some have a stronger pool → because mostly top math/science students choose them → scores are higher, but you’re competing against stronger students Some look easy — but have low top scores → vague questions, less structured answers → harder to score a 5 even if you study Some are very popular → hundreds of thousands take them → doing well doesn’t make you stand out as much So what matters isn’t just the subject. Ultimately only if you score a 4/5, does it add real value. For 2026, you got this! For those who are still planning their APs for next year plan which exams you can realistically target for a 5 don’t overload with “easy-looking” APs choose exams where your effort actually converts into a top score Same effort. Different AP → different result. Comment AP for the full list + difficulty breakdown. #APExams #APClasses #CollegeAdmissions #HighSchoolTips #APStudents #StudyStrategy #APCalculus #APPhysics #APBiology #APEnglish #CollegePrep #StudentSuccess

These college do’s and don’ts aren’t just suggestions — they’re your roadmap to making the most of freshman year 🗺️ The students who thrive aren’t necessarily the smartest ones.
