CRWhen John Lennon brought “Come Together” into EMI Studio Three on July 21, 1969, he was coming off a recovery from a car accident.
An interesting fact is that according to engineer Geoff Emerick, John walked in and declared: “Okay, lads, I’m ready. Time to let yer hair down and play some rock and roll.”
While he originally envisioned the track as an up-tempo “Standard” blues number inspired by Chuck Berry, the band, at Paul McCartney’s suggestion, slowed it down into the high-fidelity, swamp-rocker we know today.

CEIn 1998, George Martin - the man who produced the Beatles - made one final album before retiring. He called in the most unexpected cast imaginable to cover the songs he'd spent his life recording. 🎵
The album, called "In My Life," featured primarily actors and comedians covering Beatles classics. Goldie Hawn sang "A Hard Day's Night." Jim Carrey covered "I Am the Walrus." Sean Connery read "In My Life" out loud. Billy Connolly did "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite."
But the opening track - the one that redeems everything else - is Robin Williams and Bobby McFerrin on "Come Together."
Martin admitted he approached Williams "with some trepidation," then realized it was with equal trepidation that Williams said yes. It was Williams who suggested bringing McFerrin along - calling him "a one-man accompaniment."
Two of the most gifted improvisers of their generation, given one of the greatest songs ever written, and told to make it their own.
