NASo many dental students and dentists experience failures with their composite restos and they just don’t know why.
Here are some of the lessons I picked up from @dr.billgergis ‘s BAD Direct Course that will help you.
Let’s break it down:
1️⃣ Relying only on cotton rolls: adhesive dentistry begins with good isolation. Cotton rolls just isn’t enough. Any form of humidity will significantly reduce bond strength and increase failures. Rubber dams will always be the standard
2️⃣ You think all bonds are equal: they’re not. The truth is certain adhesive systems are simply more superior and give you more predictable results. Optibond FL and SE Bond 2 are the gold standards
3️⃣ Bulk filling to save time: you might save time but it will cost you more problems later. Bulk filling causes your composite to shrink more, increasing post op sensitivity and failures. Incremental layering minimises this shrinkage, offering better results
4️⃣ Guessing tooth anatomy: if you don’t know anatomy, you can’t recreate it. That’s why your fillings always look ‘off’. Memorise the “Essential Lines Technique” by StyleItaliano and your composites will instantly look 10x better
5️⃣ Spending too long finishing: the aim is to have your final build-up as close as possible to the final shape. This will save you from wasting time, unnecessary errors and scratches u can get from finishing
