⬇️ How to make Liquid Compost Make your own fermented liquid by breaking down food waste in dechlorinated water using anaerobic beneficial microbes. This brew feeds soil life and works beautifully alongside compost & mulch. What you need: 🍌 Fruit & vegetable scraps. Soft scraps work best. Avoid meat, dairy and oils if you are new to this 💧 Dechlorinated water. Let tap water sit 12 to 24 hours or use rainwater 🌾 Bokashi bran or liquid EM (EM-1 type) 🫙 An airtight container with a lid. 🪨 A weight, rock, or plate to keep scraps submerged. Optional but very helpful Step 1. Prepare your water Fill your container with water and let it sit for 12 to 24 hours so chlorine can off gas. Rainwater is ideal if you have access to it Step 2. Add food scraps Chop scraps into small pieces. Fill the container about one third to one half full with scraps. Step 3. Add your EM source -Bokashi bran option. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons per litre of water -Liquid EM option. Add 1 to 2 ml per litre of water -Stir gently to distribute Step 4. Fully submerge & seal -Top up with water so all scraps are fully covered - Push scraps down to remove any trapped air -Seal the container airtight. Anaerobic (oxygen-free) conditions are essential Step 5. Fermentation time -Leave sealed for 7 to 14 days -Store out of direct sun at around 15 to 30°C -Do not open daily. Oxygen slows fermentation Signs it is working: -A sour, sweet, pickled smell -Cloudy liquid -Softened or collapsing scraps ⚠️Things to look out for: -A white film or yeast is normal -Black slime or a putrid smell means anaerobic failure- too much air has gotten in. Compost the contents and start again -Mould above the liquid means scraps were exposed to air Straining & storage: -Strain the liquid when ready -Use within 24 to 48 hours for best microbial activity -The remaining scraps can go into a soil trench, compost pile or Bokashi bin How to use it in the garden: 💧 General soil drench. Dilute at 1:100. That is 10 ml per litre of water 🌱 Delicate plants or seedlings. Dilute at 1:200 🚫 Never use undiluted on soil or plants 🎥 Original video from @sutheaphnoorunp

🌱 How to Make Your Own Compost at Home ♻️🍂 Instagram Post Caption: Turn kitchen scraps and garden waste into black gold for your plants! 🪴✨ Making compost is one of the easiest and most eco-friendly ways to feed your garden naturally. Here's how to get started: 🔄 Step 1: Collect Materials ✅ Greens: veggie scraps, coffee grounds, fruit peels ✅ Browns: dry leaves, cardboard, shredded newspaper 🪣 Step 2: Layer & Mix Alternate greens and browns in your compost bin or pile. Keep it moist — like a wrung-out sponge — and give it a good stir every week or so. ⏳ Step 3: Be Patient In a few weeks to a couple of months (depending on your climate), you'll have rich, dark compost ready to use in your garden beds, pots, or planters. 🌿 Composting reduces waste, saves money, and gives your plants the nutrients they crave — all naturally! ♻️ Who else is composting? No turning. No hauling. No waiting months for a pile to “finish.” Now I have ready-to-use compost in weeks. This is what changed everything for me: When food scraps go straight into the soil, they break down where the microbes, worms, and roots already live. The soil does the work. I just… get out of the way. I dig a small hole. I bury the scraps. I cover it back up. And I move on with my life. No smells. No pests. No half-rotted pile freezing all winter. Just richer soil, healthier plants, and beds that literally feed themselves. This is composting without the middleman. This is soil building in real time. This is what low-effort gardening actually looks like. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by compost rules, bins, ratios, or timelines, you’re not doing it wrong. You were just taught the hardest version first. I break down exactly how I do this, what I bury, where I bury it, and how it works in real backyard gardens. Comment COMPOST

We finally have a compost system! We built the entire thing for $0 using free marketplace pallets and a few old star posts we had laying around! We built a 3 bay system with a removable front panel to make it a little easier! We saved all of our autumn leaves from earlier in the year so we were able to get it up and running as soon as we finished building it! Here's another of the bioreactor bays filled with the pipes freshly pulled for passive aeration. A little before shot in the middle to show how we situate the pipes that hold open the chimneys for the air flow. Did you know that a well structured compost pile will allow air to penetrate 10-12 inches? These are structured in a way that allows for the whole pile to stay aerobic without the need for further turning which is a game changer and allows for a compost with a greater fungal biomass. This is just a part of our process to produce @biolife_compost #livingcompost #livingsoil #compost #composting #hotcompost #johnsonsubioreactor
