ISIn all of the years I have been hunting rocks, this is the first time I have ever found concretions . My sister spotted them and from there on out we were hooked !
A concretion is a hard mass found within layers of sedimentary stone . They are formed when a pile of sediment made from mud, silt or sand is located near a flowing body of water. Other harder materials such as leaves and fossils are then pushed into the sediment pile through the flowing water.
The spheres are formed when a cementing material dissolves in the sediment pile , such as calcite ,which forms limestone .
For millennia , layers of concrete -like rock form on top of the pile-with the outer layers softer and easier to erode . According to a researcher , it takes millions of years from the impact of heavy waves and ice to create a perfect sphere .🟤🟤
