It hits harder when you’re an adult and I will always love this song because of that! For those of you that might not know, I was born with Spina Bifida which basically means my spinal cord didn’t develop properly. Spina Bifida has many different levels. It can cause hydrocephalus which could result in needing feeding tubes etc., an example of a low level of Spina Bifida is actually John Mellencamp! He was one of 3 babies to undergo experimental surgery to reverse it and he was the only one to survive it. As for me, it really only affects my legs and I can walk with crutches and braces, but as I hit puberty and started gaining weight it just got very hard for me. Always used a wheelchair but do full time now! Yes, a lot of us disabled people function just like you, maybe slightly differently. We go to work, we play sports, we exercise, (in other words don’t fuck with me cause I’ve played wheelchair tennis for 15 years and my filming room is in my attic with STEEP steps that I haul my ass up with my upper body😉) we go to concerts and festivals just like you. Doctors told my parents I would be almost completely incapable of anything…think they just hadn’t met me yet. Don’t tell me I CAN’T do something.
