BTThere’s something deeply unsettling about Coreys, a short released last year by comedian and filmmaker Connor O’Malley now streaming on YouTube. Not because of how far out there it is but because of how spot on it feels. Filmed throughout Las Vegas, the project uses the city’s strange energy perfectly, turning empty streets, glowing casino lights, and forgotten corners of the city into part of the psychological experience itself. On the surface, the film plays like chaotic satire packed with absurd humor and social commentary, but underneath the screaming and spiraling paranoia is a surprisingly sharp portrait of internet addiction, loneliness, and masculine collapse.
The film follows a version of Corey in middle America that feels both exaggerated and terrifyingly real. O’Malley creates a world filled with emotionally stunted men, empty consumerism, and the constant buzz of digital culture poisoning every interaction. The tone swings violently between comedy and psychological horror as Corey #1 tracks down his alter ego Corey #2 on Las Vegas Blvd. One moment you’re laughing, the next you feel deeply uncomfortable realizing how believable these characters actually are.
