The answer is not honor students or valedictorians; there is actually zero correlation between academic achievement and building billion-dollar companies. The most successful founders had above-average intelligence but horrible grades, and this pattern started in middle school. They despised being told what to do, believed questioning authority was more valuable than obedience, became restless when progress was slow, and were obsessed with creating something original instead of regurgitating existing information. The education system rewards conformity, entrepreneurship rewards defiance. School trains you to follow the template, business success comes from destroying the template and building something new.
