“CPAP is the only option.” We hear that from patients all the time. But the truth is, CPAP is not the only way to treat sleep apnea or breathing issues during sleep. While CPAP works very well for many people, others may benefit from treatments that address the actual airway problem, including oral appliances, airway therapy, and other personalized solutions. Every airway is different. Every patient is different. The key is getting properly evaluated so you can find the treatment that actually works for you. If you snore, wake up tired, or struggle with sleep quality, it may be time to look deeper. Schedule a consultation today. Link in bio

CPAP therapy is the most widely prescribed treatment for sleep apnea. It works by delivering a steady stream of air through a mask worn during sleep to keep the airway open. For many patients, it is life changing. But nearly half of all patients stop using it within a year. The mask is uncomfortable. The machine is loud. The nightly routine is hard to maintain. And a patient who is not using their treatment is still at risk for the serious health consequences that come with untreated sleep apnea, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and chronic fatigue. Physicians need a solution their patients will actually stick with. Research shows that custom oral appliances carry a roughly 90% compliance rate compared to CPAP's 50%. These small, custom-fitted mouthpieces quietly hold the airway open during sleep with no machine, no mask, and no power source required. For 2026, they remain covered by Medicare. TAP custom oral appliances are backed by over 30 years of clinical research. We work alongside dedicated healthcare professionals to make oral appliance therapy a seamless, supported option for the patients who need it most. Better treatment outcomes start with a treatment patients will use. TAP can help you get there. What are you seeing with CPAP adherence in your practice? Traveling with your CPAP machine? Here’s what you need to know before you go. ✈️ As an ENT surgeon with 25 years of experience, one question I get often from my patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea is, “Do I really have to bring my CPAP when I travel?” And my answer is always the same. Absolutely. Your CPAP is not optional. It is your treatment. It’s literally like leaving your medication home. Sleep apnea does not pause because you’re on vacation, at a work conference, or visiting family for the holidays. Every night you sleep without it is a night your body is being deprived of the oxygen it needs. Under the Air Carrier Access Act, your CPAP machine is a medically necessary device and airlines are legally required to allow it on board free of charge and separate from your carry-on allowance. Know your rights. If this was helpful, please share and let me know what you want to know about OSA. #drnosebest #earnosethroat #obstructivesleepapnea

Yes — APAP does adjust your pressure. But it’s important to understand how it does that. APAP (Auto-Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure) machines constantly monitor your breathing while you sleep. They look for subtle signs that your airway may be starting to narrow or collapse. When the machine senses obstruction — like flow limitation, snoring, or apnea events — it gradually increases pressure to help keep the airway open. When breathing stabilizes and the airway is staying open, the machine can lower the pressure again. So instead of one fixed pressure all night, APAP works within a pressure range prescribed by your physician. It’s designed to respond to what your airway is doing during sleep — which can change depending on sleep stage, body position, congestion, alcohol, medications, and other factors. But even though APAP adjusts pressure automatically, those minimum and maximum settings still matter and should only be adjusted with guidance from your provider. Sleep apnea is more than snoring — it’s a serious condition that disrupts breathing during sleep and can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and chronic fatigue. CPAP therapy is effective but requires nightly use of a mask and machine, which can be difficult for some patients. If CPAP hasn’t worked for you, talk to a specialist about your options. #SleepApnea #InspireTherapy #SleepHealth #HPH
