I’ve talked to senior engineers and hiring managers - and here’s what I’ve learned: Whether it’s CCNA, AWS CCP, CISSP, or Network+, these certs do can - Teach you new skills - Help increase your pay - Let you pivot into new roles - Give you more career options - Open doors into new specialties - Make you stand out to your employer - Keep you up to date with changing tech - Keep you current on technology changes - Introduce you to peers through study groups But a certification without hands-on skill is just... paper. The real value is the knowledge gained while studying. The labs. The repetition. So yeah - certs are still 100% relevant. Not because of the letters, but because of the learning. If you are looking into a switch to medical coding, the top two certifications are the CPC or the CCS. Both are excellent choices, and deciding between them depends on what kind of coding you want to do. Inpatient coding (coding a whole hospital stay) is more aligned with the CCS, and typically has a higher salary but is more complex.  The CPC is for coding provider services (office visits, surgeries, procedures, etc) and a great overall certification.
