THWatching a Boeing 757 take off in a strong crosswind shows just how skilled pilots have to be. When the wind is blowing across the runway, the aircraft naturally wants to drift sideways.
To counter this, pilots use a technique called “crabbing” or crosswind correction. During the takeoff roll, they apply rudder to keep the nose aligned with the runway centerline while using slight control inputs to maintain balance. As the aircraft lifts off, they smoothly adjust to maintain the correct flight path into the wind.
The 757 is especially impressive in these conditions thanks to its powerful engines and strong performance, allowing it to climb out confidently even in challenging winds.
It may look dramatic from the outside—but it’s all controlled, calculated, and trained for.
