Originating in what is now Iraq before 3200 BC, cuneiform script is, as far as we know, the oldest form of writing in the world. The recording of a spoken language, emerged from earlier recording systems at the end of the 4th Millennium BC. The first written language in Mesopotamia is called Sumerian. Most of early tablets come from the site of Uruk, in southern Mesopotamia, and it may have been here that this form of writing was invented. Cuneiform is one of the oldest forms of writing known. It means "wedge-shaped," because people wrote it using a reed stylus cut to make a wedge-shaped mark on a clay tablet. Letters enclosed in clay envelopes, as well as works of literature, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh have been found. Historical accounts have also come to light, as have huge libraries such as that belonging to Assyrian king, Ashurbanipal. Cuneiform writing was used to record a variety of information such as temple activities, business and trade. Cuneiform was also used to write stories, myths, and personal letters. The latest known example of cuneiform is an astronomical text from 75 CE. During its 3000-year history, cuneiform was used to write around 15 different languages including Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Elamite, Hittite, Urartian, and Old Persian. First developed by scribes as a book-keeping tool to keep track of bread and beer rations in ancient cities like Uruk (in south east of modern-day Iraq), system soon spread across Middle East and was used continuously for more than 3000 years, up until 1st Century AD. Cuneiform is not a language but a proper way of writing distinct from the alphabet. It doesn't have 'letters' – instead it uses between 600-1000 characters impressed on clay to spell words by dividing them up into syllables, like 'ca-at' for cat, or 'mu-zi-um' for museum. Other signs stood for whole words, like our '£' standing for pound sterling. 🎥 : Credit to the Owner © British Museum #archaeohistories #cuneiform #claytablets #reels #mesopotamia #history #facts #reel #ancienthistory #writing #britishmuseum

Noah's flood wasn't first. Three Mesopotamian tablets recorded it 1,500 years before Genesis. In 1872, a British Museum assistant named George Smith deciphered cuneiform clay tablets that would rewrite everything we thought we knew about the flood narrative. These weren't recent discoveries. They were ancient records, carved in stone long before the Hebrew Bible existed. The Eridu Genesis, dated 1600 BCE. A man named Ziusudra receives divine warning. He builds an ark. He releases birds to test the waters. He sacrifices on a mountain. Every element. Every sequence. The Atrahasis Epic, 1700 BCE. Gods flood the earth. The narrative mirrors Ziusudra's story with precision. Then Tablet 11 of the Epic of Gilgamesh appears—the account of Utnapishtim. Warned by a god. Builds a boat. Releases a dove. Lands on a mountain. Offers sacrifice. Three separate Mesopotamian traditions. Three identical flood stories. All documented in stone centuries before Moses was born. The parallels aren't coincidental—they're structural. The same plot points. The same theological logic. The same outcome. This isn't conspiracy. This is archaeology. This is what happens when we read the oldest written records of human civilization and compare them to the texts we've treated as singular. What do you think? 5500 year old Sumerian Star Map, The Cuneiform tablet in the British Museum collection No K8538 is known as “the Planisphere.” Translated more than 10 years ago, the clay tablet is an actual ancient Sumerian Star Map. The clay tablet was recovered in the 19th century from the underground library of King Ashurbanipal in Nineveh, Iraq, by Sir. Henry Layard. The ancient Sumerians etched on the surface of the clay tablet details revealing they observed a massive object, visible in space, as it smashed through Earth’s atmosphere and eventually impacted against the planet. The tablet is an astronomical work since it features a set of intricate Ishtar appear. The cuneiform text on the obverse (and reverse side of the tablet, which is not shown here), records Nabu-apla-iddina's re-endowment of the Sun-Temple at Sippar. The tablet was rediscovered by the Neo-Babylonian king Nabopolassar (626-605 BCE) and an additional text was added to the tablet by him. Middle Babylonian Period, 860-850 BCE. From the Temple of Shamash at Sippar, Southern Mesopotamia modern-day Iraq. (The British Museum, London). 🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️ 🇬🇧 HOW DID THE ANCIENTS WRITE? The invention of writing dates back to about  3200 BC and belongs to the Sumerians, an ancient people of Mesopotamia. This invention sanctions the passage from prehistory to history. The introduction of writing made it possible to effectively manage issues of an administrative nature, such as the keeping of accounts, business management, as well as to pass on those traditions that until then had always been transmitted orally, with particular reference to the magical ones / religious. The most used support were the clay tablets made with materials readily available in the area. The tablets, still soft, were engraved with styles, that is thin reeds that were cut obliquely and that allowed the tablets to be drawn with remarkable precision. Once engraved, the tablets were dried in order to give them greater solidity. 🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️ 📹 Video via @opeerapat 🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️ #babilonia #sumeri #cuneiforme #archeologia #scrittura

Dr. Irving Finkel, a renowned Assyriologist, discovered a 3,770-year-old clay tablet in the British Museum. The tablet contains instructions from the Sumerian god Enki to King Atram-Hasis, a figure who shares similarities with Noah in the biblical flood story. The instructions detail the construction of a massive, round ark, described as a coracle, with a diameter of 220 feet. This ark was intended to protect Atram-Hasis and his family from a devastating flood sent by the gods. The tablet provides fascinating insights into ancient Mesopotamian beliefs about the gods, the nature of the world, and the importance of human-divine interaction. ⏳🪨 What do you think 🤔 about this??
