A Shikara ride on Dal Lake is pure magic, but doing a photoshoot in traditional Kashmiri clothing during the ride? Big no-no. It eats up your time, limits your movement, and leaves you wanting more of the actual experience.
Pro tip: Save the traditional outfit shoot for later—maybe at the Shikara with the photographer, your hotel, a garden, or with mountain views.
Also, if you're traveling with a pet, let the Shikara owners know in advance to avoid last-minute cancellations.
Another thing—don’t get down and spend a lot of time on the floating market ride. Shikara drivers will insist on it (because of commissions), but it steals your time from admiring the lake’s beauty. You can always shop for souvenirs in other local markets at better prices when you're not rushing.
And lastly, take all your photos and videos from photographers on the spot while you’re in Kashmir. I learned this the hard way—after making full payment, I didn’t receive my videos. First they said they lost them, and later, they blocked me. So be cautious.
