This posture has always felt special to me—not just because of the physical opening, but because of the energy it carries. Dancer feels expansive, radiant, and free. It asks for focus and balance, but it also invites softness and grace. To me, it’s one of those shapes that feels like more than a pose—it’s an expression. Here’s a poem by @coriefeinerpoetry that, to me, so beautifully captures the energetics of this posture: I swear I once cleared a dance floor with my own two feet, the crowd moving backwards around me as if I was a cosmic big bang and the whole room vibrated around me with oohs, and ahs, and oms. I swear when I balance on one leg and hold the other one behind me, I am a delicate fire, every muscle contracted and shaking and holding me in place, my uplifted hand before me reaching towards something, towards nothing, as I dance in a stillness that tremors and churns with all of creation. This doesn’t mean I haven’t tripped and fallen enough times to know that I, too, am made of dust. I too, have had to completely let go again and again until I get it right and then wrong and then right. They say the beginning of creation was a primordial roar, a bang, a waking up that does not fully end. I say it is a daily dance that sometimes looks like a mess, and sometimes it looks like pieces of a body trying to come together and lift itself from its center until it tells a truth that none of us can ignore.

Proper internal rotation of the lifted back leg is essential to protect the lower back and achieve safe alignment in the posture. During your preparation and warm-up, never skip opening and activating the quadriceps and hip flexors, as they play a key role in entering the pose comfortably and safely. Our final segment of the Star Wars series, Part 5! Watch to the end to see me fall/go boom 💥😂 Happy Revenge of the Sixth! Your free weekly yoga flow is available, with a bit of a "Star Wars theme" 😂 perhaps not a strong connection, but how's this for a Star Wars pose? Introducing your Deathstar, aka Dancer Pose, and we have two options: 1. Single arm reaching back 2. Double arm reach over- if you are able to hold onto your foot, awesome! If not and you're building up like I am, you can use a yoga strap (this is actually my yoga mat carry strap which is quite sturdy!) placed around the foot to bring your hands closer to your feet *If you're not quite at a Dancer Pose there are lots of back bend build up options, we go over some as a warm up in the flow, and there's also the option for a standing quad stretch as an alternative, the starting point of a Dancer Pose. And yes I absolutely fell out of the second option, much like the Deathstar exploding 😂 I'm really out of practice with my Dancer Pose which is part of the reason it's part of this week's flow (and it was the most Star Wars relevant pose I could think of 🤣) It's a big strengthening and stretching pose so make sure you warm up well and protect your body, and the flow is just under 20 minutes with a decent warm up (and I have more warm up flows available on my channel if you need more).
