Spreading beneficial nematodes! They are The secret warriors in our garden and a complete game changer! They are microscopic soil dwelling worms that release bacteria in the larvae of pests and kill them before they get a chance to hatch and destroy your garden! They are extremely effective especially with pests like grubs, fungus gnats, fleas and beetles (yes even the dreaded Japanese beetles!!) They're easy to apply. You can either mix them in your watering can or apply with a hose sprayer. We like to apply them on a cool spring day 2-3 weeks before planting. They can kill larvae in 24-48 hours, but we like to give them some extra days to do their work before the plants go in the ground. I learned about these from @dandelion_lane_dahlias and it was just a complete game changer for us! Places we've gotten them from are @naturesgoodguys and @arbicoorganics (not sponsored I just love them) What do you think? Would you try adding this step to your spring garden chores?

I’ll occasionally get a few fungus gnats here and there. My mom noticed some when she was babysitting my plants while I was in Thailand last year. I came home to a bottle of fly spray that she had picked up to kill them 🤣 Obviously, use precaution when using indoor, but it works really well killing the on the spot. 💀 #murthaflowerfarm #seed #seedstarting #hack #garden

3% hydrogen peroxide, diluted, and water creates a solution that will kill any fungus gnat eggs or larva on contact. You want to only use the solution weekly and not more often than that or you could damage your soil and plant roots. Pair this with one of my options for dealing with adult fungus gnat flies like yellow sticky traps, or gritty vermiculite / sand on top of the soil surface, and now you have a way to control the adult flies and stop them from laying more eggs, while killing any eggs that are existing in the soil. You have to assume that all bags of soil have fungus gnats in them and you have to assume that all new plants have fungus net eggs in the soil. Quarantine new plants in a separate room away from your existing house plants and water with either the BTI or hydrogen peroxide solutions I posted in my previous videos. I also pasteurize all new potting soil or seed starting mixtures in the oven following part five of this video series.
