THIn the system I use (International Image Institute), Deep Winter sits closer flowing to Autumn, meaning it’s neutral-cool—it carries both depth and a level of warmth influence from Autumn.
This is where it differs from the traditional 12-season Dark Winter, which is often described as simply “deep + cool.” In III, depth alone isn’t enough—the undertone balance matters.
Eve tho there is visual harmony with the flag. I am NOT a Deep Winter in the system I use but a true winter, Even though I can handle depth, I don’t sit close to Autumn. When I wear neutral-cool colours, I start to look sallow and slightly off.
What actually creates harmony for me is fully cool, true Winter shades, those crisp, blue-based shades with no warmth influence.
That’s why I sit in True Winter, just working beautifully in the deeper shade range of the palette.
Key difference:
• Deep Winter (III): Neutral-cool, flow towards Autumn influence in colour dimension
• True Winter: Fully cool, no warmth influence, thrives in pure cool clarity
Bottom line:
If you need pure cool to look clear and lifted, you’re not Deep—you’re True Winter working in depth.
