5 habits that are hard to start but pay off forever: I’m not gonna lie, these habits are difficult to build at first, but once they stuck, they completely changed how I approach my days as a student. The key is starting small and being consistent: 1. Waking up earlier → I started with just 30 mins earlier than usual and now I genuinely love having those morning hours to myself before the day gets chaotic to either do some work or workout. The clarity and control you get from starting your day intentionally (not scrolling) is unmatched and I always find I am most productive in those earlier hours before the day’s distractions start to come in! 2. Moving my body daily → Building consistency with the gym /running has been life-changing. Not just physically, but mentally too. Research shows that being physically active as a young adult has extensive benefits that carry throughout your life + I think it’s so important as a women to grow/maintain women as there are so many positive effects for later on in life. Plus it just puts me in a better mood and helps with focus! Find a movement that works for you, even if it’s going on a daily walk:) 3. Reading 10 pages a day → In a culture where everything is fast-paced and instant, slowing down to actually consume information through books has been so important. You get to control what you’re consuming and educate yourself intentionally. I used to mindlessly scroll, and while I am definitely not perfect at ever doing it, I find that when I am reading I pick up my Kindle so much more than my phone + it just helps me be a lot more intentional with going on my phone. 4. Time with myself → Whether it’s journaling, going for a walk, or just sitting with my thoughts - taking time to intentionally check in with myself has been non-negotiable. It helps me understand what I actually need (rest vs pushing through) and keeps me grounded when life gets busy. 5. Prioritising deep work → 2-3 hours of fully focused work (no phone, no distractions) beats 6 hours of half-distracted studying any day. #timeblock #deepwork #productivity #habitforming #habit

Your brain isn’t designed to focus for 6 hours straight. But you can train it. Here’s the neuroscience. 1. Work in 90-Minute Ultradian Cycles Your brain operates in 90-120 minute cycles called ultradian rhythms. After that, focus crashes naturally. Study for 90 minutes, then take a mandatory 20-minute break. No exceptions. Fighting your biology is losing strategy. 2. Switch Tasks Every 90 Minutes (Interleaving) Staying on one subject for 6 hours causes diminishing returns. Switch to a different subject after each 90-minute block. The mental context shift keeps your brain engaged and prevents fatigue. 3. Use the Zeigarnik Effect Your brain hates unfinished tasks. Stop each study block mid-sentence or mid-problem, not at a natural endpoint. Your brain will keep the task active in the background, making it easier to start the next block. 4. Cold Water on the 90-Minute Mark When your 90-minute block ends, splash cold water on your face and neck for 30 seconds. This triggers the mammalian dive reflex, lowering your heart rate and increasing alertness for the next block. 5. Carb-Free Snacks Only Sugary snacks and heavy carbs cause blood sugar crashes that destroy focus. Eat protein, nuts, or dark chocolate during study blocks. Green tea over coffee for steady alertness without the jitters. 6. The 20-Minute Active Break Between blocks, do something physical. Walk, stretch, jumping jacks. Not scrolling. Movement increases blood flow to the brain and clears metabolic waste that builds up during deep focus. 6 hours is possible. But only if you stop fighting your brain and start working with it. Save this for your next deep study day. #NeuroscienceHacks #DeepWork #StudyLong #UltradianRhythm #BrainOptimization Focus productivity study tips 6 hours revision student life concentration brain science

DEEP FOCUS & FLOW ARE NOT THE SAME & DEEP FOCUS (WITH FRICTION) MAY LEAD TO THE BEST RESULTS• - Humans have been trying to figure out how to optimize their cognitive states for productivity and creativity and focus for hundreds if not thousands of years. The states of deep work and flow are the two main modes people strive for. - On the latest episode of the Huberman Lab podcast, I discuss this with Dr. Cal Newport - a scientist and expert in these topics. - To be clear, I think flow has many advantages as a desired state and is worth seeking in various scenarios. Deep work and focus involving friction, however, maybe advantageous for the specific types of productivity most people seek. Fortunately it’s a brain state that can be learned and accessed using specific protocols; these are discussed in the podcast episode. - To learn more, find the episode at hubermanlab.com in all formats. It is timestamped so you can navigate quickly to the topics most of interest. - Meanwhile, please put any questions in the comments section below this post. And as always, thank you for your interest in science! - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neuroplasticity #work #focus #deepwork #flow #friction #hubermanlab #productivity

Productivity isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right things consistently. Arriving early. Protecting your focus. Saying no. Finishing small tasks instantly. These habits look simple. But done daily, they completely change your output. Save this. Apply one habit at a time. #TheMindspire #productivity #deepwork #focusmode #worksmarternotharder

Unlock Your 25-Minute Superpower! 🤩 Imagine you could get more done in 25 minutes… than most people do in 5 hours. No distractions. No overthinking. Just total focus. Because it’s not about how long you work, it’s about how you use your attention. When you train my mind to focus deeply, even for a short burst… that’s when you become unstoppable. So the question is, what could you achieve in my next 25 minutes? #DeepWork #FocusMode #ProductivityHack #PeakPerformance #TimeManagement #MindsetShift #PaulMcKenna #GetMoreDone #FlowState #SuccessHabits

that deep work block focus with zero distractions is unmatched!!! They reduce cognitive switching costs and attentional residue, allowing the brain’s executive control network (prefrontal cortex) to sustain focus. This leads to more efficient neural processing, deeper encoding into long-term memory (via hippocampal engagement) and higher-quality output in less time:)) have you tried this method? #deepwork #motivation #productivity #focus

Stop planning your day in the morning. The research is clear: by the time you sit down to “figure out what to do today,” you’ve already burned your best cognitive hours. Here’s what actually works: The night before: Write your goals by hand. Not typed. Handwritten. A Princeton/UCLA study found handwriting activates memory and motor regions that typing bypasses—your brain literally encodes intentions differently when you write them. First thing in the morning: Attack your biggest goal during a 90-minute deep work block. Cal Newport, Andrew Huberman and the Flow Research Collective all point to 90 minutes as the magic number—it aligns with your brain’s natural ultradian rhythm. No email. No scrolling. No “easing into the day.” Your morning energy is a non-renewable resource. Spend it on what matters most. Save this and try it tomorrow. . . . #DeepWork #MorningRoutine #ProductivityTips #PeakPerformance #GoalSetting
