Language allows us to articulate thoughts and emotions, and every culture has special experiences that they find valuable enough to capture with a word in their language.
Thus, learning a new language is not only about learning to communicate with a different people, it’s learning what matters to that people, and discovering new words to articulate experiences and feelings that cut across culture.
I’ve been learning languages my whole life, but unlocking Japanese has brought me a new level of joy and appreciation for the small moments day-to-day because this is what the Japanese value.
