Some other surprising traits we share are… 💜Our loud and proud burping abilities (something known in my family) 💜The way one of our eyes squints when we smile 💜The way we tell stories, the words we use, the funny side notes, the plots we create and my favorite… how the stories always end with a powerful message 💜Phrases we use, or how we speak, like explaining something as “the best __ of my whole life” or using the word “literally” literally all the time 💜The way we snort laugh when we think something is extra funny The list goes on, and on, and I have a completely separate list with my 2-year-old, Vaun. What’s even more cool is all the new traits I have gained from them. They continue to imprint on me and impact who I am, how I operate, think and feel. There’s something sacred in knowing that the quiet, quirky parts of who I am live on in my children. It is truly one of the greatest honors of my life. The other day, Florence and I snort-laughed for a solid 10 minutes. We had completely forgotten what started it, each of us just kept laughing at the other’s snort, which made us snort even more, which made us laugh harder. It was a ridiculous, hilarious loop we couldn’t escape….and I LOVED IT. These are the real-life stories I wish I’d known when I first began my donor egg journey — a reminder that who we are, and the reflections of ourselves in our children, are rooted in far more than DNA. If you are looking for a place to start your journey with donor eggs, I recommend checking out @DonorEggBankUSA. #DonorEggBankUSApartner #deivf #donoreggivf #EggDonationJourney #MotherhoodThroughMyEyes

I wanted to share this during Donor Conception Awareness day on 4/27 but life happened. After making 0 viable embryos from 6 retrievals with my eggs, I still recall feeling deep agony, pain, and fear about using donor eggs. Four years ago in 2021, I stumbled upon @expectinganything Victoria’s IG account during donor conception awareness week. She mentioned how we are not genetically related to our husband or dogs yet we love them deeply. The same year, I joined Victoria’s donor conception group @infertilityunfiltered w/ 15 others wanting to learn how to navigate the complex emotions. For 6 weeks, Victoria helped melt the fears away. We formed a life long donor sisterhood and bond. Still connected w/ them. We call our group “The Luckiest Mamas” ❤️ When Victoria published “Our Hearts Match” a beautiful book about how families are made in different ways, I ordered a copy ASAP. I wish I had this book when I felt so scared about using an egg donor a few years ago. Makes navigating donor conception feel less daunting. Even though Holly doesn’t understand the concept yet, we choose to share our special egg story w/ her (and people who matter) EARLY & OFTEN to normalize these conversations. Love how the book highlights different shades of someone’s path to motherhood. Also how beautiful donor conception can be. I know the main point is to spark conversations of differences and similarities but my biggest takeaway is ***epigenetics***. This one of the first books that highlight epigenetics in an easy to digest concept without using the big word (e.g., similar dance, roar, and smile). The word donor is not used. We look different. I talk to Holly about our similarities that I notice. Both love to eat. Both second toes are the longest. Long legs. My mom said taking care of Holly feels like she is taking care of me at her age. We have similar temperament 🥰 Magic of epigenetic! Genetics doesn’t matter when there is so much love and heart. I love every part of Holly 💜 Love reading this book to Holly even though all she wants to do is put everything in her mouth (teething). Mama hearts you for eternity my dear Holly 💜 #DEIVF #donoregg #donoreggivf

Out of nowhere, Penelope goes, “Mom, I don’t look like you.” Does this surprise me? Definitely not. But did this catch me off guard?! ABSOLUTELY We were driving in the car (I tell you guys…these conversations ALWAYS happen in the car and I cannot figure out why!) I almost responded with- “why does that matter?!” But it mattered to her because she said it. So instead, I calmed my insecurities (that still pop up) and said, “why do you think we don’t look alike?” Her replies, in this order: We don’t have the same color skin. We don’t have dark blue eyes like you anymore. Our hair color is different. We don’t have long nails like you (this one made me chuckle). As she was listing her reasons, @expectinganything’s book came to mind and I knew it was the perfect way to continue this conversation. Once she finished, I started: Do you like to dance? Do you like ice cream? Do you like to laugh? Do you like to sing? Do you like to snuggle? The list went on to which she said yes to all. “Me too” I said. “Really, Mom?” “Yes- Penelope. We don’t have to look the same to be similar in many other ways.” “I really am like you, Mom“🥹 It’s so important to allow open conversations, where children who are donor conceived can safely share and express their feelings while also reminding them that we don’t have to look alike to be a family. I also reminded her that how she looks comes from her DNA, which comes from her daddy and our helper. I believe wholeheartedly that bringing it full circle, to include her donor and the very important role she holds in Penelope’s life is essential to being a parent of a child that is donor conceived. Their genetics doesn’t need to be something you’re scared of or try to hide. IT IS WHO THEY ARE. Don’t let your insecurity get in the way of being transparent and celebrating the beautiful gift your donor gave ♥️ Also- go check out the newest book on our shelf “Our Hearts Match” by an advocate for donor conceived children + parents with a heart of gold. You’ll be able to share with your child that even if we don’t match, our hearts sure do ♥️ #donorconception #deivf #donoreggs #deivfmama #pof #emilympatel

Things I wish I knew before starting my fertility journey… If I could go back to the beginning of my fertility journey, I’d have so much to say. Looking back, there are things I wish I knew earlier on that could’ve helped me feel more prepared for the road ahead. Here's a few things that come to mind: • Prioritize your mental health • Advocate for yourself • Set boundaries • Find support • Don’t compare your journey Infertility can feel like a battle that tests you in every single way. It’s important to remember that your feelings are valid. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and lean into those who get it. Trust your instincts, ask questions, and push for what you need. And ultimately, prioritize your needs. This is your journey! For anyone on a fertility journey, support and education are important to help you feel more empowered. Resources such as @donoreggbankusa are invaluable, offering dedicated family building consultants, a community or “virtual village” on social media who understands what you're going through, and monthly free webinars and blog posts full of resources. What's something you wish you knew earlier on in your fertility journey? #DonorEggBankUSApartner #donoregg #deivf #fertilityjourney

Considering frozen donor eggs? Here’s what you should know: ✅ There’s a comparable chance of successful pregnancy from frozen eggs as there are from fresh eggs. 👩‍⚕️ Healthcare providers prefer the convenience of frozen donor egg. 📋 Healthcare providers prefer frozen donor egg for synchronization, diversity of donors, fewer cancellations, cost and refund guarantees over fresh cycles. ❌ Using frozen donor egg means never worrying about donor cancellation. Frozen donor eggs. Ready when you are. Learn more at the link in our bio.

Yesterday was Donor Conception Day. My feed was filled with positive stories where hope triumphed over heartbreak. We need these stories to show that it's still possible to become a parent, albeit in a different way to what we'd imagined. We need them to enable others to better understand the lifelong complexities of using a donor to conceive. But we also need to hear stories where heartbreak triumphed over hope to represent the other side of reality. My story falls under this category. I was repeatedly told that my chances of success were much higher, which was reinforced by all the journeys which ended with a baby. When my first cycle was cancelled, I was floored. Having always made it to transfer, I hadn't even considered that we wouldn't this time. We got lucky the second time with a different donor, but our happiness was short-lived. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer. I simply wanted to write the post I wish I'd seen all those years ago to be more aware of these alternate outcomes. Despite the devastating result, I speak positively about donor conception because it got me closer to becoming a mother than IVF alone. #donorconceptionday #IDCAD #IDCAD2025 #donorconception #deivf #deivfjourney #donoreggivf #donoreggs #fertilityjourney #fertilitytreatment #ivfjourney #ivffail #ivffailure #fertilitystruggles #miscarriage #babyloss

A few years ago, I shared this little clip of 5-year-old Mila talking about how she was made as a snippet from @paths_to_parenthub podcast (series one, episode 4) with the lovely Julie from @happytogetherchildrensbook, as we discussed how we talk to our children about their conception stories. I know firsthand how emotional and even scary these conversations can feel, which is exactly why I share moments like this. To show that it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It can be a beautiful, natural part of your story together and how children (even at a young age) can start to take it on. When we recorded this, I had no idea how it would go. But Mila, true to form, was a little pro, chatting away while happily colouring and playing with my microphone! Over the years, her understanding has grown and evolved, and I truly believe these early, open conversations have helped build a strong foundation for her story. I’m sharing this again now because on 22nd July, Hayley @dcp_journey_2_rp and I are hosting a free webinar: “Why Telling Matters.” ✨ We’ll explore what the research says 🗣 Hear from donor conceived people (both told and not told) 🧠 Receive emotional support and unpack your fears with Perinatal Psychologist Julianne @parenthoodinmind Whether you’re already having these conversations, preparing to, or feeling unsure - this webinar is for you. To help you feel more confident, supported, and ready. Comment TELL to receive the link directly via DM or head to the link in my bio to register for free. My hope in sharing all of this is to make something that can feel so abstract and scary, feel more real and, most importantly, achievable. A step towards building deeper connection, trust, and understanding with your child. 💛 #donorconception #donorconceptionsupport #talkingtoyourchild #deivf #deivfjourney #parentingafterdonorconception #recipientparent #donoreggs #definingmum #pathstoparenthub #pathstoparenthood
