Some of them are animals (multicellular) and some of them are unicellular. . These are some examples of the microorganisms that you can see in the video: Microscopic crustaceans (including a Nauplius larva of Cyclops) Ciliated protozoans Testate amoeba (Arcella) Desmid green alga (Cosmarium) Rotifers . These algae thrive in nutrient-poor, acidic bogs and lakes, though their habitats are increasingly threatened by runoff from agriculture and residential areas. Primarily unicellular, desmids have symmetrically divided cells connected by an isthmus housing the nucleus, with each half containing a chloroplast. Their three-layered cell walls have pores that some species use to move toward light by releasing a gelatinous substance. Desmids reproduce asexually by cell division and sexually through conjugation or cell fusion. Here is Closterium, an unicellular algae from desmid group. I guess it is Closterium acerosum. Desmids are algae characterized by their numerous shapes. Most have crescent moon shape or elongated spindle shape. The nucleus is in the central part of the cell, and the chloroplasts on either side of it. At each end of the cell, there are two vacuoles that contain small crystals of calcium carbonate or barium sulfate that move inside the vacuoles liquid thanks the brownian movement ( thermal agitation). We are not sure of the functions of those crystals.
