عام 1987: الفخ العظيم ​بدأت القصة عندما كان العراق في ذروة حربه مع إيران. لطيف يحيى، شاب وسيم وضابط في الجيش العراقي، كان زميلاً لعدي في الدراسة. لاحظ الجميع الشبه المذهل بينهما، لكن هذا الشبه كان لعنة وليس نعمة. في عام 1987، تم استدعاء لطيف فجأة إلى القصر الجمهوري. هناك، خُيّر بين أمرين: إما أن يكون "فداوياً" لعدي (شبيهاً له في المناسبات الخطرة) أو يُعدم وتُباد عائلته. ​ صناعة "الوحش" الثاني ​لم يكتفِ عدي بملامح لطيف الطبيعية، بل أُجريت له عمليات جراحية بسيطة لزيادة الشبه، وخضع لتدريبات مكثفة لتقليد نبرة صوت عدي، مشيته، وحركات يده، وحتى "ضحكته" الهستيرية. أصبح لطيف هو عدي في نظر الجمهور، بينما كان عدي الحقيقي يختبئ في الظل أو يمارس نزواته. ​المهمات الانتحارية: الموت بدلاً من "الأستاذ" ​كان عدي يرسل لطيف إلى جبهات القتال الملتهبة، وإلى المناطق التي يكرهها النظام ليظهر أمام الناس. في إحدى المرات، أُرسل لطيف إلى البصرة أثناء القصف، وبينما كان يحيي الجماهير من سيارة مكشوفة، تعرض لمحاولة اغتيال بطلقات نارية. أُصيب لطيف، وبينما كان ينزف، كان عدي الحقيقي يشاهد الحادث عبر شاشات المراقبة ويضحك، معتبراً أن "الشبيه" أدى وظيفته كدرع بشري بنجاح. ​عام 1992: المواجهة والهروب الكبير ​ضاقت الدنيا بلطيف يحيى؛ فعدي لم يكن يعامله كصديق، بل كعبد. في عام 1992، وبعد خلاف حاد حاول فيه عدي قتل لطيف بنفسه، أدرك الشبيه أن نهايته اقتربت. في عملية هروب أشبه بالأفلام، استطاع لطيف التسلل عبر الحدود العراقية التركية بمساعدة بعض الأصدقاء، حاملاً معه أسراراً مرعبة عن عائلة صدام. ​النهاية: وجه واحد لجسدين ​عاش لطيف يحيى في أوروبا، وأصدر كتابه الشهير "كنت ابناً للرئيس" الذي تحول لاحقاً إلى فيلم عالمي باسم (The Devil's Double). ورغم هروبه، قال لطيف في لقاءاته إنه لا يزال يستيقظ في الليل مفزوعاً، لأنه كلما نظر في المرآة، يرى وجه عدي يلاحقه، وكأن عدي سرق منه ملامحه للأبد.
