HAA brilliant application of physics to tackle the difficult task of removing a tree stump. By looping a chain around a large tire and the stump, a simple machine is created to make the job easier. This setup is a perfect example of how basic engineering principles can be used to solve everyday problems. It’s a clever hack that multiplies force through simple leverage.
The science behind this method involves using the tire as a dynamic fulcrum. As a vehicle pulls the chain, the tire rolls forward, causing the chain attached to the stump to be pulled upwards, not just horizontally. This action redirects the pulling force, creating significant vertical lift that pries the stump and its roots out of the ground. It’s an ingenious way to overcome the massive resistance of the root system.

WE🌲 Why Trees Are Cut — The Hidden Science Behind Forest Protection
We tend to believe that cutting trees destroys nature.
But in forest science, it’s the opposite.
Sometimes, cutting a tree… saves an entire forest.
The people who do this work are called arborists or forestry technicians — the surgeons of the wild.
They don’t destroy trees , they diagnose them.
Their job is to identify trees that are sick, dying, or too dense, and remove them before they collapse or burn.
When a forest becomes overcrowded, trees fight for sunlight, water, and soil nutrients.
The weakest ones begin to rot, attracting insects, spreading fungus, and creating what experts call “fuel ladders” layers of dry wood that turn a small spark into a firestorm.
By cutting selected trees a process known as “controlled thinning”
foresters create natural firebreaks, open the canopy, and let young shoots grow stronger.
Sunlight reaches the ground, new plants rise, animals return, and oxygen levels increase.
Every precise cut prevents thousands of uncontrolled ones.
It’s not destruction, it’s strategy.
It’s how nature regenerates through human intelligence.
