• Solve problems consistently
• Move twice as fast as average
• Make teams better
• Don’t create drama
Meanwhile, some engineers were 0.5x — needing constant guidance from 1x and 2x teammates.
Now enter AI.
AI doesn’t magically make you smarter.
It multiplies what you already are.
If you’re a 2x engineer → AI can turn you into 5x or 10x.
If you’re a 0.5 → AI can raise your output dramatically.
But if your decision-making is a -1?
And you multiply that by 10?
“Lord help the organization.”
That’s the real conversation happening in software engineering right now.
AI isn’t replacing engineers.
