A microprocessor, on the other hand, contains only the CPU (Central Processing Unit). It requires external components like RAM, ROM, and I/O interfaces to function. It is generally used in systems requiring high processing power, like computers or high-end control systems.

• Integration: Microcontrollers are highly integrated; microprocessors need external components.
• Application: Microcontrollers are used for specific tasks; microprocessors are used for general-purpose computing.
