Did you know there’s a difference between PYREX (all caps) and pyrex (lowercase)? 👨‍🔬 PYREX = tough borosilicate glass that can handle the heat like a champ.
😬 pyrex = soda-lime glass that gets all dramatic when temps go above 425°F.
Translation: one bakes your lasagna. The other might redecorate your oven with it. 😬 Check your dishes before they check you.
Did anyone else know this?? What kind of (P/p)yrex do you have lurking in your cabinets? #Pyrex #glasscookware #borosilicateglass #cookwaresafety #glassware #kitchenmyths #foodscience #cookingtips

PYREX vs. pyrex: Which Is Safer? 🥄🔥 Did you know there’s a difference between PYREX (uppercase) and pyrex (lowercase)? Here's the history and what sets them apart: A Brief History 📜 In 1915, Corning invented Pyrex and made all products with borosilicate glass, known for its superior heat resistance. Over time, Corning licensed the trademark to two companies: PYREX (uppercase) is still made with borosilicate glass and sold in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. 🌍 pyrex (lowercase) is made with tempered soda-lime glass and sold in North America, South America, and Asia. 🌎 Key Differences ✅ PYREX: More resistant to thermal shock (great for freezer-to-oven use). ⚠️ pyrex: Durable but more likely to break under sudden temperature changes. Tips for Safe Use ✔️ Avoid sudden temperature changes (freezer to oven or boiling water). ✔️ Let it cool before washing. ✔️ Store carefully to avoid microcracks. No matter which you own, proper care ensures your cookware lasts for years! 🏠🍳 . . ❤️Like 💾save and ➡️follow for more. pyrex vs. PYREX👇🏼 Not all Pyrex is created equal. (I think it’s still better than plastic food storage) 👉🏼Comment “MINDFUL” if you’re looking for other mindful non toxic swaps to make in your home! ✨And follow @oakbranch_home to get the message! The way the name is written tells you everything about what’s in your hands. ✨ ALL CAPS “PYREX” is the original formula, made from borosilicate glass.
It can handle sudden temperature changes like freezer to oven without the same risk of shattering. This is what our grandparents used, and it’s much harder to find now unless you thrift or inherit it. ✨Lowercase “pyrex” is made from tempered soda-lime glass.
Still good quality, but more likely to break if you expose it to rapid temperature swings. This is what most new Pyrex is made from today because it’s cheaper to produce. So, PYREX is more heat-resistant, older, thrift-store treasure pyrex is newer and needs more care with temp changes. And now you’ll catch yourself flipping dishes over at every family dinner to check the bottom. And maybe “borrowing” your grandmas and not giving it back🤣 Who else just learned this today? 🙋‍♀️ Still, glass “pyrex” is a much better non toxic option than plastic. 👉🏼Comment “MINDFUL” if you’re looking for other mindful non toxic swaps to make in your home! ✨And follow @oakbranch_home for more on non toxic living staples!

Did you know your Pyrex might be trying to tell you something? Most people miss this detail when thrifting... 👀 It's all in the letters! 😉 We're breaking down the difference between vintage PYREX and modern pyrex, the types of glass (borosilicate vs. soda-lime - what's the deal?!), and what it all means for your kitchen. 🔍 Here's the KEY difference between PYREX and pyrex: **PYREX (all caps):** Think "vintage!" These are typically older pieces (pre-1970s), often made of durable borosilicate glass that's great for high-heat baking. ✨️Why it matters:** Borosilicate is more resistant to thermal shock, so it's less likely to crack or break with sudden temperature changes. This is the Pyrex your grandma swore by! **pyrex (lowercase):** Think "modern." These are more common on newer pieces, usually made of soda-lime glass. It's perfectly fine for everyday use, but not ideal for high-heat baking. ✨️Why it matters:** Soda-lime glass is more affordable, but it's also more prone to thermal shock. So, be careful about taking it straight from the fridge to the oven! Here's how to use your Pyrex (or pyrex) like a pro: * PYREX (all caps): Your vintage PYREX is tough, but even the strongest glass can break with extreme temperature changes. Avoid taking it straight from the freezer to a hot oven, or vice versa. Let it warm up or cool down gradually to prevent cracks. * pyrex (lowercase): Modern pyrex is generally safe for everyday use, but it's not as resistant to thermal shock as vintage PYREX. Avoid using it for high-heat baking, and be careful about sudden temperature changes. With a little care, your Pyrex (or pyrex) will last for years to come! 📣Important Note: This focuses on the differences between vintage and modern Pyrex, but it doesn't cover the lead content in detail. PYREX vs pyrex - what’s the difference and what do you need to know? The main thing is that they are completely different types of glass. The old school version (PYREX, all caps) is made from borosilicate glass, making it both shock and thermo shock resistant. This is one of the things people know PYREX for, and many assume that all their products are still made this way. If you have anything where the brand is spelt in lowercase (pyrex) it is most likely that it is made from tempered soda lime glass. This type of glass is not suited for rapid shifts in temperature and could shatter. It’s cool to note that pyrex (lowercase) HAS started to introduce a few products made of borosilicate glass, but it is clearly labeled, and it’s only a limited range. Always make sure you are using your pyrex/PYREX correctly according to the type of glass, and you will be fine! Where to find old skool PYREX? Some shops still sell them in limited range, op shops or raid your parents/grandparents cupboards. First, hit FOLLOW, I always have lots to share to help you live a healthier life. Second and top things to know:⁣ ⁣ 1. Material used⁣ 2. Lead paint ⁣ ⁣ 1. The different styles of the Pyrex logo on cookware signify the type of glass used and when it was made. The primary difference is between 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 and 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗮-𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀, which have different heat resistance properties. ⁣ ⁣ 2. YES. Most vintage Pyrex with a painted or colored exterior (both solid colors and designs) uses lead-containing paint. Yikes is right. ⁣ ⁣ Almost all vintage Pyrex bowls and baking dishes test positive for 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱. When using an XRF (a precision scientific instrument that will report the exact quantity of lead, cadmium and other heavy metals found in an item) results are typically 40,000-100,000 PPM lead (anything over 90PPM lead is considered 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲. ⁣ ⁣ The highest concentration of lead is usually in the paint on the outside of the Pyrex bowl or dish.⁣ ⁣ For reference, 90 PPM is the highest amount of lead allowed in items intended for children and if house paint has more than 600 PPM lead, it is considered “lead paint” and needs remediation. ⁣ ⁣ 𝗔𝗺 𝗜 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱??⁣ ⁣ Even though you can’t see it....every time you touch it...every time you stack it inside another dish...every time you run it through the dishwasher...every time you wipe it with a rag...𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. All of these actions will release a microscopic amount of lead from the paint that can contaminate your environment.⁣ ⁣ Common side effects in children exposed to low levels of lead over time include:⁣ ⁣ Reduced IQ⁣ Behavior problems⁣ Hearing problems⁣ Learning difficulties⁣ Growth delays⁣ ⁣ In short? Unfortunately you’re going to want to toss your vintage PYREX. ⁣ ⁣ #pyrex #pyrexinaction #pyrexjunkie #pyrexoriginal #toxinfreeliving #nontoxiclifestyle #nontoxichome #nontoxiclifestyle

Here’s something I just learned about Pyrex cookware from y’all, my faithful followers! There’s a difference between PYREX (all caps) and pyrex (all lowercase) One is prone to exploding and the other isn’t. I know! 🤯 PYREX (all caps) is made of heat-resistant borosilicate glass, which makes it a strong resilient glass. It isn’t affected by drastic heat fluctuations and can tolerate high heat. Lower case pyrex is made of a less expensive glass called soda-lime and is less heat resistant. It can only handle oven temps up to 425°F. Anything higher and you find your meal coating the walls of your oven. Uneven heating of the glass or sudden temperatures changes can cause the pyrex glass to shatter.
