Dingos sehen Haushunden ähnlich, haben aber meist ein sandfarbenes bis rotbraunes Fell, aufrechte Ohren und einen buschigen Schwanz. Erwachsene Tiere werden normalerweise 10 bis 20 Kilogramm schwer und können sehr ausdauernd laufen. Sie sind meist in der Dämmerung und nachts aktiv und leben entweder allein oder in kleinen Gruppen. Als Raubtiere ernähren sich Dingos vor allem von kleinen bis mittelgroßen Tieren, zum Beispiel Kaninchen oder Nagetieren. Gelegentlich jagen sie auch größere Beute oder fressen Aas. Dadurch sind sie sehr anpassungsfähig und können auch in trockenen und abgelegenen Regionen überleben. Dingos spielen eine wichtige Rolle in der Natur, weil sie helfen können, die Anzahl anderer Tierarten zu regulieren. Gleichzeitig können sie für Landwirte ein Problem sein, besonders wenn sie Nutztiere wie Schafe oder junge Kälber angreifen. Heute leben Dingos in vielen Teilen Australiens, besonders in Wüsten, Graslandschaften und offenen Wäldern.
