What we call “unsafe” in leadership is often just unfamiliar. The real risk is moving through a situation without awareness, presence, or intention. Same environment. Same horse. Different outcome based on how you show up. A lot of leaders are reacting to assumptions instead of reading the room. That’s where mistakes happen.

Not because she’s rude. Not because she’s better. But because she’s busy building a life most people only talk about. She’s not keeping up with the Joneses. She’s keeping up with her own standards. She’s not scrolling to compare. She’s riding, training, learning, adjusting. Her focus is expensive. Her energy is intentional. Her lane is quiet… and very much on purpose. She doesn’t entertain drama. She doesn’t chase attention. She doesn’t explain herself. She just shows up for her horse, her goals, and the woman she’s becoming. That’s the part people don’t see. Unreachable isn’t an attitude. It’s alignment.

One of the simplest ways to understand horses: Movement = control. If the horse moves your feet, he just took the leadership role. Not because he’s bad… just because that’s how horses organize themselves. And the ground is where that pattern usually starts. A horse that crowds you, drags you to the grass, or leans on you while saddling is practicing making decisions about where both of you go. Then people are surprised when that same horse wants to make decisions during a rundown, a stop, a spin, or when things get a little exciting. Leadership with horses isn’t about force. It’s about clarity. And it usually starts with something as simple as whose feet move. If you want your horse to stay with you mentally under saddle, the conversation usually starts long before you ever swing a leg over. #RidersEdgeEquine

Dewayne Noel is an American horseman, educator and founder of Dry Creek Wrangler School, known for blending horsemanship with life wisdom rooted in discipline, presence and reality. After decades of living what he calls the “horse life,” Dewayne turned his experience working with horses into lessons about balance, integrity, and navigating life with grounded clarity rather than chaos. His teachings challenge conventional hustle culture, urging people to slow down enough to understand themselves and the world around them — emphasizing value, relationships, emotional control and real-world resilience over meaningless busyness. A husband for over 30 years, father of seven grown children and grandfather, Dewayne’s voice resonates with those seeking steadiness, purpose and practical strength in a distracting world. The loser has more in common with the winner than the person on the sideline. Because both of them got in the arena. Both of them felt their heart rate spike. Both of them made the wrong call. Both of them had moments they wanted to quit. Both of them risked looking stupid. The only person who doesn’t grow is the one protecting their image from the fence line. Here’s the truth most riders don’t want to hear: Winning isn’t a personality trait. It’s not talent. It’s not luck. It’s endurance. It’s the ability to take a loss without turning it into an identity. To miss the timing and not label yourself “bad.” To get outworked by your own inconsistency — and come back tomorrow anyway. The winner and the loser are in the same arena. The sideline critic never even entered. In the saddle, it’s the same. The rider who freezes. The rider who overcorrects. The rider who gets it wrong and circles back. She’s closer to mastery than the one who never pushes past comfortable. Success is just staying in it long enough. Absorbing the lesson. Refusing to absorb the label. Results find the rider who keeps showing up. Not perfectly. But relentlessly.

Are you someone that seeks out inspiration on social media? You watch coaches, gurus, world champions tell you all about what you need to do to be successful. You read books, you listen to podcasts and yet…you are doing nothing to change. Yeah, that happens a lot. Ready to put that collection of knowledge to work? You’re not stuck because you don’t know how to train your horse. You’re stuck because of why you’re training your horse. When the ride becomes a test of your worth, every mistake feels personal. Every brace feels like judgment. Every slow day feels like failure. So you grip. You rush. You overcue. You lose feel. Not because you’re a bad rider — but because you’re trying to feel like a good one. Your horse can feel that pressure. And pressure is not leadership. The shift happens when you stop asking: “Does this prove I’m good enough?” And start asking: “What does my horse need from me right now?” That’s where clarity comes back. That’s where timing improves. That’s where connection returns. You don’t need more technique. You need less proving.

How to change your life The horse and the jockey 🐎 — the best analogy you'll ever hear for your subconscious mind The horse has been in training for 7 years before the jockey is even born. It has been given 1-on-1 instruction on exactly how to get from A to B in life. Where to go. How to get there. It is fully programmed. Then one day, a weak, untrained, inexperienced little jockey climbs on top and tries to take control. Who wins? The horse. Every single time. That horse is your subconscious mind. Trained from birth — before you even had a voice — by your parents, your environment, your experiences, your trauma. It already knows where it's going. And it does not care what your conscious mind wants. That's why willpower fails. That's why motivation fades. That's why you keep ending up in the same situations no matter how hard you try to change. You cannot out-muscle your subconscious. The jockey will NEVER overpower the horse. 🐎 But here's the shift that changes everything — The jockey doesn't need to fight the horse. The jockey needs to learn how to RIDE it. Because when the jockey learns to work WITH the horse? The horse will carry the jockey exactly where it wants to go — effortlessly. Stop fighting your subconscious. Start training it. That's where real change lives. 💥 #SubconsciousMind #MindsetShift #Reprogramming #SelfSabotage #fyp #horseriding🐴
