We begin by reading this touching story, which explores themes of creativity and acceptance. After the story, the students engage in a directed drawing of a shark, embracing the idea that their creations don't need to be perfect—they just need to be "sharkish." Following the drawing, an adult helps by cutting out the shark. Students get another sheet of paper which they then crumple, mirroring the character's actions in the book. The students then paint around the crumpled paper, and once it's uncrumpled, it reveals a stunning textured background that complements their shark drawing beautifully. This art project is not only a fun activity but also a profound learning experience that combines the moral of a good story with creative expression.
