Knowing they wouldn't survive the freezing rains and hungry predators, Yamato carefully transported the mother and her eggs to a sheltered enclosure he built near his cabin. Tending the Flame For weeks, as the rain drummed relentlessly on his roof, Yamato became a guardian. Healing: He treated the mother’s wing with traditional poultices and fed her fresh salmon from the creek. Warmth: He used heat lamps and insulated blankets to keep the eggs at the perfect temperature while the mother rested. One misty afternoon, a rhythmic tap-tap-tap echoed through the cabin.
